That's a very basic chiptuney sound though and it differs a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if he just made that and it wasn't sampled.

if it smells fishy, it's probably a fish.

well my buddy just noticed it sounded very similar, he's been playing games his whole life. anyways it's known Richard has sampled old Atari and Commodore sounds before so it's definitely not that far out of the realm of possibility, oh well, I'm done there. back to more drukqs talk, one of the most epic fucking albums ever made, hands down. that said it was a grower, but now just stands so strong, I know some people say these tracks are dated but they still sound fresh as fuck to me after 10+ years of listening :aphexsign:

drukqs is the album that changed his fanbase in my opinion. it brought in more angst ridden teenage male youth. oohh, it's so complicated and mental. casual fans of his previous material stopped following his work.

just an observation from asking people what they thought of aphex. 90's aphex and post drukqs aphex is very different. I sort of prefer 90's aphex myself i think. manchester track sounds like a mix of both time frames.

I am not saying I agree with you. But notice a patern regardless of the genre regardless of the generation regardless of the artist, everyone always appreciated the roots of those artists more. They always pine for the past. This is the cyclical nature of human beings and this iteration occurs most specifically in the arts and in fashion.

10 years from now, kids will be listening to some crazy electronic shit and I'll be shaking my cigar at them asking "what are these kids listening to" just like my parents did to me.

Yeah, i assume again, now, today, that Drukqs is ever better than all Analord series & The Tuss's music... it's became a classic.

Did you guys kept the track order as is or did you changed the order so it made more sense to you.

For those times when I've had caffeine and would like to listen to music that's clearly had a lot of effort put into it, there's the "Manic drukqs" playlist, which is basically just the fast, upbeat tracks from Drukqs:

  1. Vordhosbn
  2. Omgyjya Switch7
  3. Cock/Ver10
  4. Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michaels Mount
  5. 54 Cymru Beats
  6. Meltphace 6
  7. Taking Control
  8. AFX 237 V7
  9. Ziggomatic V17

Surprisingly, it's still a decent sized album in length. The bit that gets me is still all the apparent speech synthesis with various British accents. It's like a magic trick, trying to figure out how he did that. Over ten years on, analysing the structure of some of these tracks, they're finally starting to seem simple. Contrast with most tracks which seem pretty simple to begin with. So I'm left wondering what else to listen to that sounds like it took a lot of time and effort to make, and all I've found so far is These Hopeful Machines, with its splining and painstaking glitch editing. Is there anything else for post-Drukqs satisfaction?

holy shit! i had defender on atari 2600 and, i haven't ready anything in this thread besides this comment i'm replying to, and i can actually place a sound from that game as being like something in drukqs.

i used to love that game as a kid but i had no idea what was going on (no manual). i had no idea that the things on the bottom of the screen were people, and ufos were abducting them or what. i only found this out a few years ago online!

you know what 2600 game had some awesome sounds- haunted house. when the ghosts/spiders/etc touch you and lightning strikes... amazing.

what parts? why does it get you? seems the simple part, maybe a speech program or voices from tv programs.

the speech bits in drukqs have always baffled me a bit too. the main one i can think of offhand is the one at around 4:00 in 54 cymru beats, right before the track flips out in the most awesome way. all i can make out is something about a sequence. and it's a pretty awesome sequence indeed.

then there are the speech parts in at least one if not more analord tracks. the main thing that gets me about the way he uses the speech stuff, is that i can never make out the words so i always wonder what it's actually saying, if anything. i always assumed he just used some cleverly devised 'fake' words so there would be no meaning attached but still a voice and it would mess with the listener for recognizing a voice and not having any meaning to go along with it. i never thought of the idea of it being cornish...
