squarepusher London Sinfonietta - Warp Works & 20th Century Masters

Been hoping they would release this for a while. Contains their versions of material by some of the most influential 20th century composers (Cage, Ligeti, Reich, etc.) and also interpretations of pieces by Aphex, Squarepusher, etc. Great news!

yes, there were some version, recordings .. in slsk .. but yes, this, the proper ,one should be interesting..

Looks like from 3 separate live dates. I heard a couple of the recordings on slsk as well a while back, not sure if this stuff is the same material/performances. If you squint, you can see the places and dates of the performances on the cover- like the design too!

Awesome. I was at the Royal Festival Hall show. It was fucking amazing.

There was one piece, i think it was 5 Marimba's in Eb or something. I've never been able to find it but it was fucking awesome. Hope that's included.

the pete standing alone interpretation is horrible.

for a track that relies so heavily on it's percussion, i think the arranger failed miserably to get the feel... melodically it works, but the percussion sounds like a high school jazz band.

arranged by david horne though... i woinder if he's related to christ?

YEAH THAT'S IT!!

You're a legend. It sounded awesome live and there were some awesome visuals in the background of a sky at sunset, really minimalist that just had a few things change every now and again but it was excellent. I remember thinking the only thing it needed was some kind of crunch BoC beat.

Well I definately can't wait for this release now.

six marimbas went on far too long. its nice for about 5mins. are these the visuals with someone on a swing if so very boring

Interesting! Which prepared piano pieces are these, certain I dont have have any tracks named as such by Aphex?

sounds promising but it ends before the track finishes! Still pretty similar to that Acoustica album though and I mean that in a negative way, the orchestral arrangements are clever but not as satisfying as the real thing.

I'd rather they tackled the spastic electronic workouts of Aphex and Squarepusher rather than the ones which translate easily, and I'd definitely rather have new material by these artists than hear interpretations of them. Meh, still ordered it though and the rest of the artists on the CD should be interesting too. Glad this has got a release though, been curious aboout their shows for quite some time!

six marimbas is fudging amazing. my second favourite reich piece after music for eighteen musicians.

i was not so impressed with the warp versions i heard on slsk.

disc two is correct except the gyorgy ligeti tracks take up 07-10

11 is polygon window.

track one and two are the piano tracks from druqks

am just breezing through right now and it's pretty good.

from what i understand only Squarepusher took part in this performance (see live Squarepusher section for lists of dates he performed with the orchestra). all other tracks are solely by the orchestra.

are performed by an orchestra. not by squarepusher himself.

in fact all of these songs are performed by the orc.

I think he performed his own material at the same event, not with the orchestra. I know there is a recording of him performing Tundra 4 at the event. I believe everything on this CD is by the orchestra alone.

i have a bootleg of a single song from this era by squarepusher with the orchestra. i believe that is the case correct me if i am wrong. i think he played two or three songs per concert, in collaboration (i am pretty sure).

edit: i have a bootleg of Ether 2004 that somebody sent me. i thought it was released already. anyways i checked and there are two squarepusher songs on the set, i'll make sure both of them are up.

edit: 2 squarepusher songs on the set, squarepusher performs one of them, it seems that the symphony performs the other, the songs can be found under this date: 2004-03-12 - UK-England-London - Royal Festival Hall - Ether 2004 - BBC Radio 3, in the bootleg section. i can upload the rest of the bootleg if u r all interested, but it is nothing spectacular as far as my opinion is concerned.

anyway, pretty nice so far. the aphex tracks used are "Jynweythek Ylow (Prepared Piano Piece 1)" and "Hy A Scullyas Lyf A Dhagrow (Prepared Piano Piece 2)" btw. don't know why they didn't say that in the first place, but whatever.
