my favourite squarepusher, it's just lush and completely mental

Same here. I discovered Squarepusher (and IDM in general) through Just A Souvenir. Liked it, decided to buy another album from him, chose Ultravisitor: my teenage brain wasn't ready lol.

Very fond memories of walking in my city at night listening to Tetra Sync. Can't wait to receive the vinyls!

The live tetra-sync is amazing - release the whole concert video please!

Someone mentiotned this beauty from 2004 - "Direct to Mental" in all its glory, and an unreleased "Angstromm" style track at the end... top tier Tom

i only just found out about this. i was just comparing some tracks from his earlier albums a few days ago and making a playlist of some favorites, and noticed how the Hard Normal Daddy tracks had a lot of high frequencies rolled off. it sounds muffled, like the detail has been 'smoothed out' and i'm hearing it through a pile of blankets. maybe it was intentional but i feel the frantic stuff on it sounds better with a boost up there so you can hear the detail better. so i think that album needs a remaster more than anything.

selection 16 needs a repress more than anything else though. and it absolutely should not be touched at all, but i know it will be if it ever happens, so it can say 'remastered' on it.

ultravisitor has always been maybe my least favorite of his but it does have a vibe. venus is obviously great. the remaster seems better in some ways but maybe not as good in others. i think its mostly just compressed more. for me ultravistor always sounded kind of weird, like the elements in the mix didn't 'gel' well, so i might like it better this way. not sure i think its an improvement with venus though.

not that i'm some expert. just my opinion(s)

but the remaster seems pretty similar over these shitty headphones so i don't think it can be said to have ruined anything

The master was possibly some reel to reel or cassette deck (Tascam Portastudio seemed to be everywhere back then)

EDIT: Either of these two maybe - image.png

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

The maximized version of venus 17 seems to be on apple music, but not ultravisitor... Very curious to hear what the remaster is like, since the mastering on the original is so unique

EDIT: nvm, it's there! Apple music is just buggy as fuck and makes it hard to find. It doesn't show up on the squarepusher albums page and It gives an error when trying to search for ultravisitor... but not just "ultra". found it in some other view somehow.

EDIT2: Remastering sounds good. harsh frequencies seem to be less present and theres a really nice subtle saturation over the top of everything. Sounds a bit more glued together and compressed but it still serves the music well. Might have a bit better stereo presence too?

That's the first track I played! My all time favourite by him.

yeah probably that's why it's like that. but the content up to 20khz isn't completely removed, it's just lowered several dB, so it's kind of weird (to me) that the mastering engineer wouldn't have just EQd it to bring it up. i was making a SP mixtape for someone and did it myself with these tracks so they sounded more like the others i used. i do think that tape roll-off can sound really nice for some music but i don't think it's the case with HND. i think it probably needs a remaster more than anything else in his catalogue. again, just my opinion.

Just to say the Japanese vinyl with obi is luuuush. Came in a really thick plastic protective sleeve too. My UK copy from Bleep turned up with corner dinged.

The t-shirt is super high quality and Beatink branded, only slight regret is I sized up because Japan but it's more like normal t-shirt sizing. Super thick cotton.

If you're on the fence I'd go for it.

I'm in the UK and mine arrived absolutely battered to bits!! 😩

I got a replacement in the post yesterday (unbelievably well packaged this time!) and was in immaculate condition, thankfully.

So all is good now!

I got the CD, not the vinyl.

Ahhh, sorry! I didn't notice the size of it until I noticed that  the sticker is larger. Obviously because it's the cd. I'm a fool!! 🤦🏼‍♂️🤣

Go plastic vibes?

I pretty much always bail on Ultravisitor after this track and just stick on Go Plastic. I've already done it listening to the remaster.

"that was fucking great, in fact so good I'm going to put on the album that's all tracks like this but not mixed like shit on purpose for some reason"
