Guest Quoth
I think his ep's and video's have helped him a lot to get some mainstream attention, and make a lot of money. Ricky maintains his godlike status well, by giving ridiculous interviews, doing gigs incidentally, releasing material on a irregular basis and putting his tracks on a shitload of compilations. I also think his fans (including myself) are worshipping him way too much. Yes, the advance he got from Sire for a promised album was rather large I heard... not 90% of his profit though. Richard struck it big financially with his remixes and advertising tie-ins. Mind you he always seemed to have cash... there was that radio interview (KISS FM) he and Grant did where he mentions he spends around 100 quid a fortnight on records... and that was back in 93'! novayshun said: Josso said: Probably all the on-the-side releases... oh and Windowlicker (about 90% of his profit). i doubt windowlicker made a profit considering the cost of the video Pfft - small change - I think they spent around 120k on the video (I'd have to look up my notes from the time). That kind of money was spent in anticipation of a promised album (which got delivered several years later) and to help sell the EP. Guest aphexvancouver
Virtually no artist ever recoups from record sales. The record company gets the 60/70 % profits from the sale of any CD. There is no way in hell Richard got 90% of the profits from Windowlicker. As a matter of fact....advances have to be repayed to the record company and the 4 or 5% (!) slice the artist gets out of the sale of any cd is so minimal its scary. Even that disgusting Nickelback who sells by the truckloads hasn't recouped as of yet.
