Untilted was fantastic, man. Seriously, LCC, Ipacial Section and Pro Radii all in a row nearly killed me with awesomeness. Compared to those, Augmatic Disport and Iera are kind of meh, but then Fermium picks it right back the fuck up and nearly kills me with awesomeness again by having The Trees and Sublimit directly after it. Damn, I'm exhibiting BOC-levels of pathetic fanboyism right now. Excuse me.

You don't like Augmatic Disport!? Wow! I figured it would have been Iera and Fermium people liked least on Untilted.

Anyway, every Autechre album is fucking quality, with maybe one or two not so great tracks. Long live Autechre.

the last few minutes of augmatic disport is my favorite ae moment... love that bass! especially listening to it full blast on an exquisite sound system! it's not my favorite ae track though... vose in was my first conscious listen of ae... i've heard various tracks before from incunabula and tri repetae, but vose in was a good introduction and made me seek them out!

Remarkable.....a thread about LP5 yet no mention of the outstanding 777..

Quite poignant, considering tomorrow (saturday) is the seventh day of the seventh month of the seventh year of this millenium :omg:

LP5 is the first album I ever listened to by Autechre so it always has a special place in my soul. I also love the pure minimalism on the CD packaging...especially the double sided CD!!!.....

Untilted sounds fantastic and for me makes infinitely more sense when you listen to recording of their recent live sets...

My thoughts exactly. I got Untilted on CD when it came out and listened to it, say, 20 times ... just couldn't get into it, so I traded it in and felt unimpressed with AE for a while - it's the only time I've ever sold an AE item that I owned. Then last year (i think) I listened to the 2005 Glasgow set and everything clicked. I've since bought Untilted both on CD and vinyl, and it's now the AE album I listen to most.

it was released exactly 9years ago today! WARP released it upon us on 13th july 1998 - doesn't time fly?

an astonishing album, not just for autechre but for the whole electronica genre i'd say.

one more thing - is the first track 'acroyear2' named after the bad guy from the micronauts?

the funny thing about lp5 is that i have read somewhere that ae have basically said they have done a lot better than this. i think they may have topped certain tracks on here, but this is the best 'total' album from them. i can put this one on from beginning until end, and not one track really stands out, maybe arch carrier a bit, but its so solid as a whole, rather than a sum of its parts. there is something unique about the album, like its some kind of environment, or world - i can get lost in it. this is the record that put autechre to the top of the heap. hands down all time favorite lp.

I quite agree, I rarely listen to odd tracks from LP5, always as a whole. But Drane2 and Arch Carrier are amazing.

Just from reading interviews and stuff, I think that they may be particularly fond of Draft.

And so they should be, it's incredible.

fold4wrap5 has the wierdest beat ever. its like the tempo slows down within each bar. wtf? amazing.

it's simultaneous drum machines playing bars of 4/4 and 5/4 at different tempi which phase in and out of time, and it's fucking amazing, ingenious drum programming.

Corc can put me on the verge of tears sometimes.

What I like about LP5 is it's math, and the machine being romanticised. Like, showing there is a passion involved in the things that we build and there's a beauty to it. That's what I think, at least.

I agree completely - LP5 is a brilliantly emotional album. Corc has that same exact effect on me also!
