Ok, here's a thing I recorded for my mate Cosimo. It has 2 large diaphragm condensors on the acoustic guitar, recorded in a big lively room. The guitar was mixed bone dry with no eq IIRC.

Here's the gear list:

Mikes - Studio Projects T3, JoeMeek JM47

Mike pre - JoeMeek VC3 mk 2

Guitar - Martin dreadnought

Synth - Oberheim Matrix 1000

Reverb (vox) - Tascam RS-20B dual spring reverb

Delay (synth) - Ibanez AD-3000 analogue delay

Medium - 4 track cassette

Digital stuff used - none, bitch

dude sounds nick cave-ish (save for the oohing at the end). martin dreadnought isnt that like a four million dollar guitar?

the recording sounds great. wish there was a little bit more going on with the guitar sos i can get a better feel for the setup. thanks for the demonstration!

sm58's suck for recording vocals. dynamic mics suck period for recording vocals but especially a 58. about the only thing they're good for are those shitty cupped mic hardcore constipation vocals.

large diaphram condensers are for recording vocals. 58's are vor live vocals through a p.a. where everything is distorted anyway and you can use a condenser because it will pick up too much of the other instruments on stage.

Bullshit.

Get an SM58, why?

Nobody wants to hear some stupid human voice.

Get an SM58 and vocode the pants out of it.

The glory with a vocoder is that you can say ANYTHING in rhythm and 78% of people can't understand what you're saying, and the other 22% don't give a fuck.

Just lay down a Kraftwerk beat, pop a shitty mic into a vocoder and sing "Peanuts are the free world currency" in time to the music. Proper head nodder already.

Fuck a bunch of fidelity!
