squarepusher M D K ~ EP

You may remember MDK from his releases for Spymania - the label that pretty much gave birth to Squarepusher and Jamie Lidell's first releases - and after a lengthy break he's back in action with this new EP for the odd little label that is Weme. This is solid stuff - things have moved on since those times and MDK's production and musical aesthetics have clearly developed at a similar rate if these three tracks are anything to go by. Taking in influences like dubstep - which he builds on well for the first track, reflecting Boxcutter's approach to the genre but with more detailed technicality - and also minimal techno - which he pulls off in a quirky and convincing manner on track two. To round things off there's a trip-hop meets basic channel piece that's also good. All in all this is a triumphant return.
