Twenty tracks should be a decent amount. Anyone like the idea of sending the result to a netlabel?

haha excellent

if i may interject some criticism in the execution of this concept.

imo it kind of defeats the purpose of the "deaf" song if you already know what type of samples you are using before hand. alot of the stuff im hearing so far uses a lot of 808 samples, why not be truely deaf about it and load a sample that you have no idea what it is? a deaf person would not know what an 808 sounds like, therefore they would be equally as likely to choose the windows error chime sound as a hi hat .

choosing the sound palette, and not just the arranging/sequencing part should be deaf-like too.

I understand that the end result will be mostly unlistenable if its executed this way, but as long as the random samples you choose for percussion have fast decay and no sustain, they should sound somewhat ok.

i might be misunderstand the concept, but so far it seems to be more about "guessing" how its going to sound based on your previous experience of being non-deaf, and i think the result would be a whole lot more varied if it was a song made in a deaf-from-birth-mans shoes. He would have no point of reference for instance if turning the cutoff knob on a 303 will make it have a high freq squelching sweep sound, for all he knows sweeping the volume knob will sound badass

i hear you

admittedly i do kinda know what these tracks are gonna sound like to a certain extent for the reasons you describe above

but i like them so i keep farting them out between longer bouts of "writing" music

mr x and glass plate are good examples of what this collection should be really sound like

BTW .. i started hosting mine before this thread started and as far as this deaf EKT comp goes i officially submit deaf 3

it really does sound like going deaf..

does this go anywhere or have anything to do with you or is it just some vaguely related smashing pumpkins bullshit

cause i could only manage about 10 seconds before attempting to cut my ears off

maybe that was the point no?

it's my deaf remix. i didn't know what it would sound like until it was done, but i think it fits the theme pretty well.
