I agree with that. Some kid pissed me off a few weeks ago saying that prefuse 73 is a groundbreaking electronic artist. psssh, i wanted to punch him in the face.

Whatever. Prefuse is tight, and the A Cloud Mireya album was genius. Security Screenings was a pile of shit though.

one word extinguisher & outtakes were awesome advancements in style from vocal studies. he fell flat by trying to compensate for lack of new musical/beat ideas by adding too many MC's on surrounded and then pissed out whatever c-side bullshit outtakes he had left on "surrounded by silence". also his piano overlord project was an incredible letdown. also he sucks live. if his new lp is good, it will be a complete surprise at this point.

I liked him live and liked Surrounded By Silence. Sure, it wasn't a step up musically, but it wasn't trying to be. Yeah Piano Overlord was a let down, but A Cloud Mireya was brilliant, and going further back in history, the first couple S+S releases were awesome. So was some of the Delarosa & Asora stuff. Guy's a great talent. I think he just spread himself a bit too thin last couple years which made the quality of a couple of his projects drop. Doesn't mean he's not still capable of making great music. I'm not counting on any of this new stuff to be great, but full scale hating shouldn't be necessary for a guy that's done this much great work.

Shit, guess I'm in the minority here, but I've pretty much liked -to a varying degree- everything he's put out as P73 since Vocal Studies... The Savath & Savalas stuff he did pre-Savath-Y-Savalas was great too. I for one am looking forward to these new releases.

What's with all the Prefuse slagging? His production skills put most people to shame, and he keeps raising the bar at least in that regard. Give the guy some credit.

I agree his production on 'Vocal Studies' was very good. But I think the guy should put out albums more slowly, it seems he releases all the stuff he produces directly on cd/vinyl. He should produce a large amount of tracks for over a year, pick out the best, and put it out. Let's see if the records improve then.
