Sounds a bit like its highly aliased sound. Like pitchshifted higher than it should go. But its a bit smooth for that.

yeah on cooledit and soundhack time stretching/pitch shifting is in the same plugin template. You simply have to change the values to get a different effect. my money is on soundhack or metasynth

for aphex beetz, all you need the Battery and Glitch VST's.

...and some good quality audio to throw into them.

Those wonderfully distorted bass pieces are definitely made by running them through both the high pass and low pass filters simultaneously on the Korg MS-20. The filters then self resonate and cause that gurgling distortion that you hear on almost every song from ...I Care Because you Do. There is a clone out there by a company called Frostwave. They perfectly replicated the filter section from an MS-20 and sell it as a small module called the Resonator. I've yet to hear one personally, but if anyone else has and can vouch for it being able to accomplish sounds such as the ones in the sample Chris Moss Acid posted, then please let us know. I will purchase one immediately.

I can't verify the validaty of this, but I can expand on this by mentioning that the MS-20's filter sounds the way it does because of a design flaw that modulates the resonance ammount slightly based on the input signal gain (hence the name of the module being the Resonator). I've gotten a realitvely similar effect on the Nord Modular by making my own 24db lp filter out of 4 6db filter poles and then mashing together modules to adjust the resonance ammount in the same sort of way.

Also, this is why the earlier mentioned MS-10 will not work, because it uses a completely different filter from the MS-20.

I don't think later variations of the ms-20 do this either.

probably, given the time frame...soundhack or metasynth, like GB3 mentioned.

who here likes piping /dev/kmem to /dev/dsp???

Whats that do? Try to interpret your kernal variables as audio and streams them to your sound card?
