"Computer-generated" as in generated by a computer. "A computer is a machine for manipulating data according to a list of instructions" which leads me to view a drum machine or a 303 as a computer/hardware, though not in the personal computer sense of the word. I reckon these things can store information to some degree. Still, i am sorry wattm. I fail at internet

Nah im pretty darn certain the album was made on Reaktor.

With most of the manipulation done on the Orville of course

Like someone else said, Squarepusher said he did not use a computer. He got a computer after that album. Now he works with his Eventide, Reaktor, Pure Data, and whatever else it is he wants.

I know I read an interview where he said that.

What on earth would you use to program those beats without a computer?

Well, shit... I don't know, heh. Come to think of it, to create your own algorithms on the eventide you'll need a computer, if I'm not mistaken. Though I think that thing along with a decent sequencer is is capable of doing what he did. I'll see if I can find that interview. :smiling:

Where exactly is the bass guitar here?

It's all over. One easy place to tell is the begininng of Boneville Occident. That's bass. Or in Plaistow Flex Out, it's really easy to pick out what's bass.

YES. EXACTLY.

The part that comes next after this its so fuckin awesome it can't be described.

btw, WTF he did to the amen? This is sure the amen but its so processed its scary. I detect maybe a compressor and some weird panning?

Listening to Redbook stereo music over 5.1 = faek

It's just artificial enhancing, in which you evidently loose fidelity. You gain nothing, you loose something. It's like EQ, there's no way around it. You're losing something.

Anyway, Go Spastic is so fucking ill. I like the Reggea-dub scratching portion !!!!

he explains that no PCs were involved with the creation of go plastic in one of the interviews on squarepusher.net, a japanese one if I recall.

Care to elaborate?

I notice an amazing panning work all over go plastic, but specially on go spastic. You can hear the drums comming from one side or another, but on a very weird way, very smoothly done. How would you do that? Just panning every single thing manually or adding some sort of stereo enhancement shit?

Ignore the last comment, couldn't edit it (watmm fails). This is the real deal:

I was stating the fact that it sounded awesome on my 5.1, not that Squarepusher made Go Plastic with 5.1 on mind.

Tried it with headphones also, muted L, then R, heard it again with both, and still you can't clearly figure out from where the stuff is coming.

If I were to do something like that, or should I say, if I could do something like that at that level, I would do it manually. That's where you're gonna get most of the control.

Listen to Tim Exile's last album (the last one that wasn't live), it has some insane panning. The songs don't necessarily impress me as much as Go Plastic though...

Appart from the awesome panning, the amen sounds pretty fucking weird. I hear some sort of reverb and compression, specially noticeable on the snare hits, which sounds so smooth stereoish wtf.

I tried to get a similar sound out of the original amen and its just impossible. But I really want to know how, so I can't stop trying all sort of weird crap. Is there on watmm someone with the sufficient knowledge to elaborate on this? Im sure this is doable without spending 5700 on the Eventide Orville.
