definitely a special album for me because lichen was the track that got me into all idm. i was studying music in the boonies bored to tears of music.. cuz all that was coming my way was conservative and dull. a classmate used lichen in his project, i was like WTF is this? he passed me the album along with some autechre and FSOL and i was hooked. ah the 90's..

this album still gets better whenever i pull it out. the minimal beat tracks alone on this album by themselves.. he's never really done anything like it again.. especially the restrained dubby hand drumming stuff.. and i just love the overall 'color', sound of the album..

off topic glad i found the uk release too, as the releases here seem to miss at least 2 tracks (stone in focus and matchsticks :wtf: ), sometimes more.

feels like i'm with the choir here but it's gotta be Lichen or Rhubarb for me. i still can't believe how you can get such evocative music out of so few notes.

that second part of rhubarb.... i tried doing a hiphop remix of it once. it was terrible.

but yeh, rhubarb'n'lichen. brutal.

fucking LOL

I picked up a copy of SAW II brown vinyl today in the oddest of fashion's...

my mate told me at the pub that he had seen a piece of paper beside a shop saying that someone had a copy of SAW II on vinyl and wanted to sell it with a contact number...

he gave me the number, I rang it and was answered pretty quickly by some chap that told me in quick procession a list of vinyls he was selling (told him I'd buy some more some other time)

offered me it for a TENNER (due to the fact that there is a TINY ink smudge on the front cover. The vinyls themselves are in PERFECT nick)

FUCK YEAH :D :D:D

(he also claimed he had a copy of AB 5 he was willing to sell me as well along with some BOC stuff :spiteful: )

what? no!

if anyone here reads this and is thinking of selling SAW2, Spanners or Bytes on vinyl pm me.

Considering discogs lists the cheapest SAW II copy at just over 100 Euros.... I feel like a very jammy/lucky bastard right now....

I know  . that's why I posted my request here in the thin hope that one of my watmm brethren might give me a good deal

:( one day that thin glint of miracle will happen... and you too will find your copy of SAW II on vinyl... and at that point Stone In Focus will play... everything will be bliss....

i chose blur and i don't like the arrangement of the tracks so this is my playlist of favorites. i load this playlist when i want to chill. other than some of jochem paap's ambient stuff saw is the best i've ever heard.

01 blur

02 lichen

03 rhubarb

04 blue calx

05 cliffs

06 z twig

07 curtains

08 windowsill

09 grass

10 tree

11 matchsticks

12 hexagon

13 mold

If you are looking to "Chill Out" , SAW II is not the album for you.

Its a fucking rainbow of emotions (Most of them of the "eerie-kind")

So did RDJ just strip the beats of these tracks or what? I can't help but think more tracks have alternate version like "Radiator."

i would love to hear some beats behind these tracks, hopefully not just steady 4/4 kicks like half of rdjs early stuff

I'm going to guess that most of the beats expunged from SAWII tracks must not have been too mind-blowing, or else he wouldn't have felt the need to make spooky ambient beatless versions.

But then again, who knows...

I like Curtains.. It's for the loony heads  I should have voted for Curtains instead of Blue Calx. Rhubarb is nice also but Stone In Focus is the track. :cisfor:

curtains is ropes, right? the one that's sort of swung like da-da da-da da-da da-da and then a spooky piano melody appears later in the song.

Yes but I never heard of ropes. :whistling:

Yes but I never heard of ropes. :whistling:

Both [curtains] and [ropes] are acceptable. I have it listed as [ropes] because, to me, the image looks like a bunch of ropes and does not depict a set of curtains in any way.

it's not my favorite, but 1.4 is by far the most disturbing track

I have to skip it if I'm tripping or I get frantic
