yep.. everyone is a musician

cool

Listen man, you suggested my name directly after my post...it was clearly an attempted insult.

My music is extremely important to me...you can't just hit a few keystrokes on your computer, hit "reply" and expect a musician not to take offense to that. Given my previous point, that was exactly what you intended.

At least back up your claims with something other than minimalist backpeddling cowardice.

look if you were going to describe tree music to someone else who would you say...?

THE FOREST, IT CAME ALIVE AND TOOK HIM

That line's the perfect response. Be sure you shout it as well, and flail around a bit.

Indeed Skytree sounds nothing like BoC, and is unique (great) music in its own right.

Sadly anyone with some fuzz, out of tune analogue synths, nostalgic field sounds and reversed acoustics is likely to be compared to BoC. No mention of ulrich schnauss or indeed Krautrock bands such as Neu!, Stereolab or Can, who have a measure of influence on the BoC sound for sure, and have had their own share of endless comparisons throughout the years.

well im sure skytree will be the first to tell you boc are a heavy influence and he should instead take it as a compliment.

BoC are an influence in some ways, sure, but only one of many. Mostly, their inventive production and sonic complexity is something I really value, so if my music is compared to them in that respect, I'd take it as a compliment. In terms of the actual structure of a track itself, I'm far more influenced by progressive rock and celtic folk, so if I'm compared to BoC from a compositional standpoint, I don't think such a comparison holds much water. That's just my perspective though...I suppose everyone's welcome to feel differently.

haha

objective opinion, but

freescha - kids fill the floor > every boc release since beautiful place

course, i don't think freescha even belong in comparisons to boards. way different mindset totally. i mean what do they have in common? that they play melodies on organs? hah.

i think it's hard not to try to copy BOC after listening to their stuff eh?

admit it

you all copy BOC

Don't think so...! We all copy from Beethoven, Mozart and Bach...the real innovators.

And by the way...i'd find it a little embarrassing to explain myself if someone thinks my music is cloned from whoever...i like it, i know a few other people like it...and that's what it is...! Basta...!

I disagree with a lot of the comparisons so far, primarily that of Christ and Prhizzm.

If it weren't for being loosely related with BoC, Christ. probably would have garnered few comparisons. Outside of the nostalgic melodies and obscure vocal samples, I can't hear much similarity. Christ's rhythms are far less hip-hop oriented, instead opting for a more freeform and experimental field. The overall sound is more electronic and synthesizer-oriented, while BoC are slowly eroding that sound from their catalogue.

In the case of the latter, Prhizzm's sound shifts enormously throughout a single track, while BoC typically ride a similar theme throughout any given tune. Again, if you're listening strictly to the occasional nostalgic melody and thick production, I can understand the comparison a bit, but outside of that, I don't think they're very similar.

actually, nostalgic melodies and thick production were the basis i was going on with those two.

frankly, pendle coven and team doyobi are logged in a similar place as boc in my musical conciousness, but not for any reason i could put into words (and no, not because of the skam connection)

no, i copy the guy who changed the lengths of the stretched cat gut and called out to his buddy with the semi-hollow log.
