Not sure why this would be called electro instead of acid? Because of the rolling 808 beat? You have a 303 sqwacking all over it.

I like the 808, everything else is kinda boring.

I called it electro because every track I've *ever* done before has had a 4 on the floor beat.

BD XOOO|XOOO|XOOO|XOOO
SN OOOO|XOOO|OOOO|XOOO

This track has a pattern like this:

BD XOOO|OOXO|OOOO|OOOO
SN OOxO|XOOO|OOOO|XOOx

that's an electro beat in my book

:O)

Well yah, but, I dunno, I thought the electro sound had more to do with the interaction of the beat and instrumentation than just the beat. When I think of electro I think of Kraftwerk and DMX Krew and not 303/acid tweaks. I guess it's just a hybrid. Also I was harsh and abrupt earlier. It wasn't bad, just like MRX said not really developed. I liked the beat lots because I like electro lots, but the rest of the song stuff seemed not so fleshed out. If you're just looking for critique on the electro style beat, I'd say it was quite good, although I havent given it a second listen and Im already forgetting how it sounded.

i see what UR saying

here is a new version with a more electro styled beat.

+ a little bit of schwing

plus i had some harsh treble that i was boosting by 12dB for some reason - have calmed that down a bit

I think this would not be bad in a club/dj set but it doesn't really have enough of a theme carrying it to make me want to sit down and listen to it. I like the overall production/intent but I think it really needs a "hook"

Just my feelings about electro in general. I enjoy Kraftwerk because of "Hooks" like in say, The Model, or DMX KRew because of the melodic "hook" in say, "Sound of the Street" or "Metronome", or in Miss Kitten & The Hacker's "1982". Something that is instantly catchy and will have me humming it when I'm not listening to the song. That's what I like best about electro anyhow. I guess if anyone cares to hear my pontificate, I think that's a big departure from Acid as well, where really I'm not so much on any melody, I'm just looking for a groove, something in the syncopation of the filter changes and distinctive 303/101 sequenced grooves that catches the ear. Anyhow sorry for rambling.

s'alright

not really anything special for me tho - it rolls along more in a "breaksy" kinda way

not funky electro enough for my liking

which could be quite confusing since the whole "breaksy breakbeat scene" is mainly electro

but somehow with the funk taken out

(IMO)

which is why "breaks" nights are largely really boring with loads of divs bopping to bland funkless electro

(IMO)

it never ceases to amaze me how so many tracks that are based around the computer world / numbers / planet rock rhythm yet end up so completely devoid of funk

(IMO)

i am not saying all that applies to this particular tune, mind

i am uncomfortable using these loose genres / terms / statements in a bulletin board method of communication

here's some prime examples of what i consider FUNKY electro (mainly early 80's)

afrika bambaataa - planet rock / looking for the perfect beat

imperial brothers - we come to rock

newcleus - jam on it / jam on revenge

COD - the bottle

hashim - al naafiyish

tyrone brunson - the smurf

cybotron - clear

jonzun crew - pack jam

man parrish - hip hop be bop

various artists - streetsounds electro 1-4

UR - afrogermanic

kraftwerk - computer world

drexciya

etc

hashim - al naafiyish - If you've ever heard a sample of a vocoded voice yelling "It's Time!" (famously scratched by DJ Dish of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz for instance), that is this song, and it's off the fucking hook. This is the #2 thing I like about electro. Vocoders. Essential. All good tips from everyone, I agree I really enjoy a hook or something that is pretty catchy and makes me want to move like a robot. Bring the funk. More vocoders and pitch bend synth funk please!

I think I enjoy everything except for the 303 line as it doesn't really add much to the rest of what is going on. I really dig the beat and vocal stabs though.

if you want good electro inspiration, download a bunch of dopplereffekt, japanese telecom, kraftwerk's computerwelt, cybotron and the entire breakin' catalogue.

i got a bit inspired to try some electro myself, but i'm not sure i'll be able follow the nazi rules of esthetics that the hardcore fanbase demands
