i got a bit inspired to try some electro myself, but i'm not sure i'll be able follow the nazi rules of esthetics that the hardcore fanbase demands

haha! go 4 it anyway, the best music always crosses into places it shouldn't!

here's a bit of my second attempt

it's the right sort of sound, n'est pas/? just a bit bland

how do i prevent clash with the 808 kik drum?

i'll tune the kick to 63Hz (the magic number n'est pas?)

i'm listening to dopplereffekt now with a bottle of liebefraumilch

NP. Gesamtkunstwerk

I tend to prefer to keep the basslines way down around 50-60hz and the 808 slightly above, because I feel it retains the punch of the kick better, but your mileage may vary!

This is getting warmer, I agree with the deep bassline suggestion, this part sounds like a bridge in between two different parts to me.

i'm trying a track using the 808 kik as the bassline and the LoTom as the kick (both processed thru different channels)

Ive never thought about using the low tom as a kick.... it doesn't used the bridge-t osc though does it? I'd think you'd lose that distinctive 808 flavor?

the tom is gated, then overheated thru a tube, so it's more like a splodgey click then i sampled that sound to reuse the tube

the kik-bass is just used on the electro-kik steps

AGGH, my music computer just crashed again

piece of junk

I think I see, so you're using the 808 still as part of the kick drum, just layering with the low tom/click together as one kick drum? I had thought you meant bassline as in like a harmoni bassline, and I know people have used the 808 kick sampled with a long decay for that (I suppose also just twisting the tone knob to do that but I don't have the skill or patience for that).

i'm using the tone + decay on the kik to get basslines - record a shed-load then used the best bits to build the bassline

so it doubles as the kik and tuned bassline simultaneously (hopefully!)

.....................it sounds a bit jungly though atm

Yah but even Ed DMX uses a bunch of 808 samples.

Get a JoMoX - they let you tune the analogue kick to actual notes via MIDI = hott

Howebber = kick melody = 1997 :sad:

cheers, the fuller version of this track is in this thread

I think all the individual years in the history of music are valuable for plundering!
