I tend to prefer to keep the basslines way down around 50-60hz and the 808 slightly above, because I feel it retains the punch of the kick better, but your mileage may vary!

This is getting warmer, I agree with the deep bassline suggestion, this part sounds like a bridge in between two different parts to me.

Ive never thought about using the low tom as a kick.... it doesn't used the bridge-t osc though does it? I'd think you'd lose that distinctive 808 flavor?

I think I see, so you're using the 808 still as part of the kick drum, just layering with the low tom/click together as one kick drum? I had thought you meant bassline as in like a harmoni bassline, and I know people have used the 808 kick sampled with a long decay for that (I suppose also just twisting the tone knob to do that but I don't have the skill or patience for that).

i'm using the tone + decay on the kik to get basslines - record a shed-load then used the best bits to build the bassline

so it doubles as the kik and tuned bassline simultaneously (hopefully!)

.....................it sounds a bit jungly though atm

what the heck have we been talking about for the past few posts?

didn't hear the other versions but i like this clip. the stabs are what makes it. you could have a bassline higher than the 808.

Also, sidechain yr kick into a ducker and duck the 303 with it.

here's a go at using the kik as bass.

not much pitch movement, might just stick the kik into 'simpler'

EDIT: the last sample sounds better played back at 84% speed

i'm a gonna sample the kik and make a melody wiv dat sh1t

simpler (ableton sampler)

does the bass sound muddy ? ((+do you have subwoofers?)?)

I use a big old ghetto blaster to check my subs, but i don't think it's very accurate + sub bass reverberates terribly in my studio (no soft furnishings you seeee!)

Get a JoMoX - they let you tune the analogue kick to actual notes via MIDI = hott
