Bioshock

Downloading right now. This is the slowest demo download ever...it's like everyone & their dog is trying to play get it at once.

how is the combat ? is it not too doom 3/oblivion ?

it's the only issue i have spotted from viewing the vids..

I don't really know what you're asking considering Doom 3 & Oblivion play completely different.

The enemies can kill you quickly in groups, but you have a pretty nice arsenal. It's very versatile from what I played, kinda like Deus Ex 2 in the sense that you can clear a segment in 20 different ways, each of which challenging in their own way, but certainly possible.

Just played through the demo and was quite impressed. I would venture to say that the combat in the full version is much more complex, what with all the hacking and combos and all. And who could have thought beating junkies with a wrench could be so rewarding?

This for 360 exclusively?

also, this takes the most immense shit on doom 3. it's way creepier too. i'm not sure that i'm be able to play this alone in the dark.

Anything with creepy little girls is do-not-play-with-the-lights-off worthy, IMO.

When I played the original Resident Evil (Biohazard) for PS1, I was playing it alone, in the dark, and that fucking doberman jumps through the window suddenly... I about shit myself and screamed like a little girl.

It's an uptempo Condemned with magic, little girls, weird new years monsters etc. and I love it! GOd damnit it's beautiful!

I'm tempted to play through the demo again because it's so good, but I'm gonna hold out until the retail release. I'm so glad I just bought an HDTV last week.

yea, this game looks and plays great. i'm only slightly disappointed in the graphics (well, mainly the lighting), especially compared to something like the darkness, which has brilliant lighting effects, a game like this that relies so heavily on the light/dark contrast should have lighting that is a bit more dynamic, but that is just a minor, minor qualm. the game is beautiful. the opening scene when you're swimming is brilliant and plunges you right into the game.

Yeah, I'm tempted as well, but I don't want to ruin the full experience of the game by playing a very small part of it over and over again.

I've been reading posts about the demo and Bioshock has stolen all the thunder from Metroid for me. I'm buying an HDTV I can't afford on Friday just to get ready. I am way too excited for something I didn't care much about until today. I just hope there is more ammo laying around than there was in System Shock 2.

edit: Hell, this game got me to post on the General Banter forum. Thats saying something.

i would be really surprised if anything on the Wii including Metroid was able to match the beautiful graphics of Bioshock especially considering its just a souped up Game cube. Not that graphics are the most important thing in a game, but i fear that the new metroid will resemble the one on Gamecube more than a next gen game like bioshock.

I have a feeling Metroid will be the biggest Wii disapointment yet, if not only for the lack of online.

I'm inclined to agree with JR on Metroid part Wii. It won't be one big world like we're used to. Instead it will be split up into half a dozen planets or so. This doesn't bode well.

edit: I'm still gonna buy it as soon as I'm done with Bioshock. And I'll put it down as soon as Halo 3 drops.

Joyrex...get a 360. If you get one manufactured after May it has a new heatsink AND a 65nm chip in it. Much better hardware. I put my hand on it while it was running and noticed it runs about 25 degrees cooler (fahrenheit) than the one I had that died. There's so many good games, you won't be disappointed.

Keep your PS3 for Bluray and the 3 or 4 great exclusives it will have.

Also, then in every video game thread you can say "Well I have all 3 systems so suck my cock."

I want to get the 360 Elite...but I dont have an HDTV!

I bought this today, the store in my area put it out early and I managed to grab a copy before they yanked them.

It is the best FPS shooter Ive played in a long long time. Also, this game is like an endorsement for all the good hd-tv's out there. The opening sequence is so gorgeous on a 50" plasma.
