animal collective

i don't like AC because of the reviews. I like it because it's fantastic music. If it stops being fantastic, so will the reviews, and I will stop liking it.

That said MPP is good

either i had a dream i posted in here or i forgot to press the 'post' button.

there are a lot of people who are like what you guys are describing, who only listen to music because it is cool to do so or because some indie site says it is good and they are trying to keep up with the trends, which is really sad. but don't judge the music on that. listen to it for yourself and like all original / new music keep your mind open and don't think about anything else. it might take you a few months of hearing it on and off to get it, but if you keep out of that "this is shitty music, cause the hipsters like it" mindframe then you are on the right track. if you don't get it after a few months then you are a lost cause and you are going to be missing out on something great.

I liked the Person Pitch album in the summer.

See... as much as I love Animal Collective... I never got into Person Pitch much at all. It's ok for a little relaxing background music but I didn't understand why the critics seemed to prefer it over Strawberry Jam...

merriwether, strawberry jam, those are classics

person pitch, that's a masterpiece

pills, bros, they're much more than background music. my mom would call it background music though - i made the mistake of playing it during a car ride a few years ago and she complained about how it's repetitive. you should read the lyrics, that might make it click for you, but i don't know. personally, i think person pitch is one of the greatest albums ever made. up there with loveless, pet sounds, idm, jazz, classical. it makes me feel so good sometimes.

Well you're in good company but for me the real masterpieces are Feels and Merriweather, although Strawberry Jam is really good too. I rarely listen to music for their lyrics, I think Tom Waits is probably the only artist who's lyrics consistently blow me away. And considering how perposefully indistinguishable Noah Lennox made the lyrics for that album I don't think that was the thing he was trying to get across. It's just not my thing really, I don't really like the feel of it, that whole sorta laid back trippy surf rock vibe just doesn't move me as much as those other albums.
