Guest tht! tne

either hunt and peck drums 'til they sound right, or try to capture an idea i have for drums

then put a poor, basic bassline in there and try to add some melody

then after i've given up making passable bass and melody i go in and tweak the drums for counterpoint

record to .wav compress to .mp3 put up a thread in ylc as an implicit cry for help lol

most important thing for me creatively is taking breaks from music.

makes everything feel new, having forgotten a little about the lower level innovations from my previous track(s).

when i make things back to back i tend to trudge through each one and drag them out of months.

when i get a track idea out of time off, i'll stay up all night, miss work, and have a track done in a day - few days, it's a different kind of session, full of excitement.

i usually get a pair of songs out of those manic musical outbursts, then rest a few weeks doing other things.

im pretty much the same as that but i dont conciously take time out its just one or the other. either i can write and it happens very quickly or i cant and i save the track as 'acidagain2' or 'jung-beat' or something similar. it helps to be relaxed and not put too much pressure on urself to write TEH-BEST-TUNE-YET.

also, cigarettes and coffee.

his melody. brilliant. i'm going to go emulate his distinct sound and set myself back to the day before man developed the wheel.

get stoned enough to where i don't mind spending a few hours layering drums

export said drums

eat ice cream

look for that sweet porn sample

get "distracted"

towel off

make a basic loop of said drums

add melodic element

computer crashes

lose all information

get angry and distract some more

on the real though I make my songs almost entirely linearly

sometimes i create sounds that i think would be good to hint at earlier so i go back and place them in

other than that it's total linearity

i have basically no idea where a tracks gonna go until i put it there

reading, mostly. i spend a lot of time working on tracks and reading. also, sketching puts me in the mood to work on music. i like to work on a track and then take a break as soon as i start to get really excited about it. If i leave the house, or start doing something else, and find myself wanting to rush back home to work on the song, i tend to know right then that i will carry through and complete the song.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.
