Filler yes. well, we know that the tuss was at least 2yrs old right? i think someone mentioned it before, but to me the tuss seemed like firing an impulse into this dynamic system to get a feeling for what the response looks like. like he was trying to derive some sort of aphex transfer function without actually doing anything involving any of his known aliases. obviously the reason for all of the subterfuge. he wanted people to guess but not "know" as well i think to sort of gauge the "aphex effect" on the response...

we're in quantum territory here. he can't really observe anything without changing it a bit. he could fire the only copy of the tuss into the the atlantic and the afx wave function would remain completely uncollapsed... but he'd also learn zilch. i think he knows exactly what he's doing - he's played these games before. what i really respect is his level of patience - that's what's hard for me! anyways, if he just dropped an aphex album directly, everyone would fall on it like a ton of bricks... if it wound up being a failed experiment (he's human, honest), he wouldn't get anywhere near that level of attention for a second try. by being "sneaky" about it, however, he keeps that momentum/reputation in the kitty, and in fact probably generates more via curiosity (or loses some when people like me get fed up via a forum full of tuss topics!!). anyways, he's making pasta. he doesn't want to dump the water, strain the pasta just to see if it's done. so he tastes a bit with a spoon while leaving the rest boiling. is it al dente yet?

i enjoy these mass psychology games myself. i like your analogy, makes me think of impulse reverb... how would the tank firing sound in the sistene chapel?

I think that’s what it really comes down to. None of us no how happy he is with what he has accomplished, I mean for fucken sake on paper it looks great and any fledgling electronic artist would give there nuts to have what he does. But he may not really be prepared mentally yet to give it a go. or maybe he is happy with what he has and he doesn't give two rats asses what we say and how people receive his records cause he's one goddamn rich mother fucker.

Don't think aphex is so involved in marketing methods. He might not release his last album under the tuss' alias just to make a buzz arround it,as it was said in certain reviews, but rather because he don't want to get into the star system or something like that...you know he is The fucking Aphex Twin. Didn't he say he views his tracks as his own children ? (about this, i'm wondering if we actually have the best of his works...)

There is also a logic follow-up in his album, and in a certain outlook, ICBYD is to RDJA what Analords are to Rushup edge => will he continue with analog equipment ? Don't know... But he did say about the basic piano tracks of Drukqs (DrukQs, sorry) he did some more complex ones he will release later.

As he often say he makes experiments with human embryos, I presume he is interested in it, and in a few decades we maybe could hear tracks made from his own encephalgrams (don't forget he is a fucking mental barbarian , make lucid dreams, and didn't sleep during the composing of SAW(85-92 or II, can't remember).

We've got this all slightly wrong here. Richard did wait for the market to stagnate before unleashing his latest beast, and he did decide to test the waters first. It's just KTPA1 and KTPA2 didn't quite create the ripples he expected so now we're stuck with The Tuss.
