amazing movie

i like to rate films in general by how closely they resemble and/or reach the amazing heights of 2001

i'll occasionally say things like 'Barton Fink is the the Coen Brother's 2001 a space odyssey'

or sometimes i'll mix it up like 'Barry Lyndon is the 2001 of historical fiction movies'

does Barry Lyndon exist in an HD format? it would look amazing

My dad told me, if I ever watch this, to fast forward through any scenes where everyone is eating.

the book compliments the film imo, and I love both equally, except the novel actually goes through the end sequence and describes what Bowman is seeing, fantastic writing from one of the most brilliant humans to ever live!

The part in the book with Bowman morphing in the star child is one of the only parts from the book i would say compliments the movie, almost every other extrapolation ie: the ape creatures having names and much more back story, the programming errors with hal, the nature of the Monoliths as described in 2001 but mostly in 2010 do nothing but take away the insanely strong emotional resonance of 2001 the film. I believe Kubrick knew this as well which is why he chose to make so many things in 2001 the film purposefully ambiguous and unexplained leaving the viewer to come up with his or her own interpretation. I personally feel that both she be viewed as separate entities and 2001 the book as Clarke's more personal alternate expanded take on what happened in 2001 the film

or David Fincher, it was supposed to be his followup to imo his greatest film 'The Game' Morgan Freeman's production company still lists it on their website as 'in production' and Fincher is oddly still slated as director even though it has been removed from imdb.com for over 6 years

I don't think I want to read an Arthur C. Clarke novel.

He's my father's favorite author and he's the most pulpy fucking reader of science fiction I know.
