TFTT: You need to take a chill pill man - what's the fucking point of announcing a song here, and then those who see the site for the first time see it and you've had a jump on them all this time?

The track will be announced when the site goes live.

RE: Phil Collins - are you picking him more for the comedic value of it, or because you seriously like his music? Shock The Monkey would be a good one for a laugh...

Who is going to be remixing asside from the people in this thread anyway?

Asside from that, that sort of situation is no different than any other remix competition that goes on. People hear about it and different times and give it a stab in the couple of weeks that they have, I don't think it'd be a terrible tragedy if a few people knew a couple weeks ahead of time. We still don't know when the site is going live, and we're fast approaching two really big hollidays that are going to blow up a lot of peoples availability as it is. In my experience in life, and especially on message boards, the longer people are "just waiting" for X to get done, the less the probability is that anything gets done.

Anyone have any interest in making this weekly?

Maybe every Friday we announce the winners and also the next song, then people can spend the following weekend and week working on the next one that will be due by thursday midnight.

will this leave enough time for voting?

D'oh - How could I mix up Phil Colins and Peter Gabriel? Ah yes, that's right - they're both crap.

Seriously though, Blicero brought up the notion that a month is a bit of a long time to do this - Project 168 gave you a week to put together a whole EP, so one remix shouldn't be any harder, right? I'd like to hear what you lot think.

Also, with all the hating you're doing on this TFTT, why don't you just fuck off and come back when you've learned to contribute something positive to it, eh? And considering Blicero is doing the coding out of his own free time, you really shouldn't take any issues you have with my procrastination on WATMM and direct them towards this project. We also don't plan on limiting this to "just the people in this thread", as we're hoping this will revive EKT a bit and hopefully be the start of EKT really growing out of WATMM's shadow and potentially becoming an entity of it's own.

You do bring up a valid point about the holidays, which is why right now a launch date of December 1 seems reasonable, giving potentially 2 or three chances to do remixes before Christmas. After the new year, things will pick up, and having it weekly will keep it fresh and lively. If a week turns out to be too short, then we'll go two weeks, or whatever works best.

I guess (if there's no objection) I'll pick the first track, and I like the idea of the winner picking the next track - but would (or should) the winner not be allowed to compete in the competition for which he or she picks the track?

See, there's a lot more to this than simply slapping a site up and "doing it" - it takes planning and consideration, especially if we want it to be successful.

you could do voting during the following remix. so whoever wins picks the one after the next.

i dont see people getting antsy for more. biweekly might be doable. this might be pollworthy. i just think you'll see a drop off in quality if you only have a week to do a remix. i dunno

Agreed.

lol ok whatever, Im not talking about your procrastination Im talking about projects in general. Like at work, what starts out as a simple idea turns into a lump of bloated shit after you add in the fucking marketing asshole and his stupid sales team, so even though you end up with alot "more" than you began with, it fucking sucks because it got way too beyond itself somewhere along the process, and half the time never ends up even getting done. What started as someone wanting to do a remix is now suddenly "taking EKT and bringing it out from under WATMM's shadow" which is classic getting ahead of ourselves. We're not building bombs here, so Im just of the opinion to get it going and work the rest out later from experience. All the sitting around and talking about it just reminds me of boring meetings at work.

I also agree with Fred that a week is way too short and a month is just right. P168 is set up like it is because it's like a once a year, if that, event. Something cyclical like this does need some bumper time for differing peoples schedules.

Yeah, in retrospect weekly is a bit short - biweekly, and like Fred suggested, perhaps have the prior winner pick the followng comp's track. Also, I said "hopefully", not "let's build all this extra growth into it now and bog it down".

It is going - the remix site will launch December 1st, and at that time a track will be announced, agreed upon by Blicero and myself, with input from others if needed. If all goes well, voting for the winner will be announced on the 14th, and a new track selected by the winner announced, and due to the holidays, be due by the end of the first week of January. After that we can settle into a bi-weekly schedule. How's that sound?
