chim
Relax abit. Stop being critical of your own work. Appreciate it as your own work, that it's great in its own regard, it's you expressing stuff with music. it helps alot. you won't make good music if all you think is "my music sucks" Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/27937-making-music/page/2/#findComment-623590 Share on other sites
Guest Rook
I get sidetracked a lot when composing. I will just end up jamming for an hour or two and it will be sort of "in the moment". Then I always wish I had been recording the jam, than I try and recreate it, and it never works. lol Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/27937-making-music/page/2/#findComment-625827 Share on other sites
pcock
maybe if everything you writes completely sucks to you, its best to just sit back and enjoy music that you love that others have written? I dunno. Historically, there are plenty of composers considered "top tier" who were never satisfied with any of their work. pcock
i wasnt replying to your comment but i can see that happening. who out of curiosity? i always just assume that the reason write music is because they have a far better idea of what they want to hear than some other guy, kind of like the difference between buying a suit ready made to as close as your body shape as possible, instead of going to a tailor and getting it made for your body. oyster
I find that if you make part of a song or a little seedling of a song and to you it sounds terrible and you just want to toss it, put it in a seperate folder away from finished songs instead of throwing it out. Than about a week later, listen to it with fresh ears and you might be inspired to take it somewhere. Guest tht! tne
appreciate what bits you can make and keep trying... it doesn't really matter what other people might think about your music it's yours; it's for you; maybe you'll improve to your own standards Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/27937-making-music/page/2/#findComment-625868 Share on other sites

Beethoven was very displeased with a lot of his work. There was plenty he liked, but lots that he felt inadequate or not as good as it could be. And Beethoven is pretty much top dog. More recently, Jimi Hendrix was displeased with the majority of his work. It's one of the reasons why he performed so many covers. Guest Adjective
i think it helps to never be satisfied, i mean to always feel like you could and have to do better, that's very motivating. you will do better, you must. it may wreck you a bit but will keep you ever-evolving, you won't rest on your laurels, cause they won't ever be good enough. i guess somewhere in there you have to take some satisfaction in that you're at least growing musically and will grow forever, so you won't kill yourself. pylonbitch
music is never finished, only abandoned. a lot of essentially good pieces of music finish a good while after the end. Guest volg4
record everything, coming back to something after months or years and hearing a spark or moment in something you would have deleted is a cool feeling... also great for sample fodder go for law of averages, if you record a million tunes one of them has to be decent... Guest Rook
I usually consider something to be a success compositionally if I get it stuck in my head later on. pcock
i consider music that gets stuck in your head a failure. i think every aspect of music is competely subjective actually.
