"Tired sounds" + weed + vicodin + long-ass drive through the mountains of the Pacific Northwest US = probably the best experience I've ever had involving a double-disc album.

that's exactly right... i've had great experiences listening to all sorts of different music, but a long walk/drive with any of their music playing is a guaranteed winner.

Ya, their whole discography is quality. They're one of my girlfriends favorite things to listen to at bed time other than Brian Eno - Music for airports.

They played live in Brooklyn last month and there was some unreleased material. This one, 'E7', was recorded and is definitely worth a listen for SoTL fans waiting on the new record.

i saw them at a small gig right just before Tired Sounds was released & it was easily one of the best performances I've ever seen (right next to Spiritualized on the original Ladies & Gentlemen tour). Luke Savisky totally killed it with the 16mm film loops through filters.. very analog style projections that synced with the music.

If you ever have a chance to see one of their performances its really something not to miss...

Every once in a while I think Brian comes back to Austin - I think I've seen him at a coffee shop a couple of times.. think I may have saw Adam once but they haven't played here in ages. Brian did a solo performance a couple of years ago.. Savisky had an exhibit at the museum. Otherwise, that's it.

By the way if you are in Austin, waterloo has a few unplayed / sealed copies of Avec Laudenum on vinyl at the moment. They are the good Kranky versions. It's one my favorite albums of theirs - just before they peaked in my opinion.

I read that David Lynch is starting to film a new Twin Peak series.. perhaps he'll use some SotL this time around.

I have Tired Sounds and Refinement and Ballasted Orchestra on vinyl. And Refinement on CD, too. All are lushaf. I couldn't tell you why, but I certainly think Stars are better on CD.

Certainly if one is looking for the typical SotL pass-out experience ripped cd's played in looped mode are going to be the most efficient delivery mechanism.

I own or have owned all of their compact discs. Feel free to sue me for having the vinyls too. :music:

What I like about Avec Laudenum is that they have really honed their skill & style with drones, phasing, & making solid melodies with these tools. just before they start getting into acoustic instruments & orchestrations. Which I like some of that stuff but sometimes the piano melodies get a little 'adult contemporary' for me. Especially in their later albums... Not so much on Tired Sounds of. Avec Laudenum is just pure coolness.

The last 2 minutes of 'Dust Breeding (1.316)+' is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. Every emotion I can feel distilled into that moment. It never seems to lose its potency for me.

Been listening all morning. I think Avec Laudenum is my favorite album in the world; such immensity and desolation... Hunting for moths in a windless country field on a warm, summer evening. Cabin lights still visible, grass up to my neck.
