how as he doing the vocoding back then ? sorry to say i never really bothered with jjperry, i stopped after raymond scott era and listened of course to some 60's electronic classics as well, but really flashed past and stopped bothering, cause digging through the cheese, you know and back then it wasn't just as easily available you had to look for it.

the vocoder was invented in the 30s, there were other mechanical devices that produced a similar effect back then too, the sonovox was great:
