You should get one of Brian Dougan's (the bald one from FSOL) hand made Eddi boards:

Holy shit lol $1600 for 3 VCO's? Although really, $1500 for a clock source, some boolean logic gates, and a clock divider is the most laughable price I think Ive ever seen.

i bought an old serge panel off ebay a while ago, there is absolutely no way i would consider buying a new one.

Grrr...I wish I could afford modular stuff. There's a school a couple blocks away from me that has an arp 2600 just sitting in a closet. Drives me crazy! Anyway...Modular synths are very expensive but I think they are worth it. For the quality you get, and flexibility, not to mention the one on one in your face REAL interface that comes with such a different "mood" when making music, its spectacular. Plus the "banana jacks" that you use with the serges have a lot less strain on the inputs and outputs than 1/4 jacks.

That Variable VCF can process control signals on the "lo" stetting, which is super cool.

James "carbon111" has a pic of his serge with some previous modules, on his site:

i made some hybrid Banana/1/8th inch jack connectors to go back and forth between my doepfer and serge, for the most part it seems to work ok

Brandi,

GB3 already posted his, and I have a Dotcom rig as well. I think our point is that $1600 for some binary logic gates is absurd. An and/or gate is one of the simplist circuits you can create, it doesn't affect your audio at all, so what the fuck makes a clock source + set of 3 binary logic gates worth $1600??? Those prices are bordering on Buchla crazy without the Buchla name or really, originality of function.

Oh I agree they are insanely expensive, but still think it's worth it if your soldering skills suck or you are rich(neither which are probs of mine). I am all for the DIY route.

Will search for gbIII stuff.

I really don't get analog.

I used a roland system 700 in school and really was not that impressed. I suppose people claim it has a better tonal quality but at what cost?

http://www.recordlabelrecords.org/jiz/SERG...constructed.mp3

this was made using only sounds from that serge panel, i just recorded a bunch of raw audio and cut it up to form a beat.

i want to make more tracks just rocking one modular synthesizer type. I got a chance to play with a rack of Buchla 200e modules at a convention and secretly recorded under the table a half hour worth of sounds from it!

modulars are the best. but really, after using the nord, I could never go analog. the ability to save sounds for instant recall, the ability to use many modules over and over (opposed to the fixed number of hardware ones you own) the polyphony, the ability to route a signal from one source to countless others via "split" cables.... its just a no brainer for me. whatever sound quality benifits an analog system offers, for me, do not outweigh all the previously mentioned benifits of the nord.

1600.... for about 100-200 more, you get a nord modular keyboard with one of the most bad ass interfaces ever.

You can save/recall patches with the Buchla 200e! It's just tens of thousands more expensive... lol

Really though I love BOTH my Nord Modular and my analog rig, because they are completely different. Not just in tonal quality (there is not a Nord filter that sounds like my dotcom ones!), but also just in how I go about constructing and crafting the patches. I would never give either up at this point.

the one thing ive noticed about Serge that i havent really seen out of other modulars besides Buchla is how Fm-y the thing sounds. Once you get a wave multiplier module hooked up you get some really gnarly tearing FM synthesizer like sounds.

Hey AW, my oscillators have linear and exponential FM inputs, FM has been possible/done long before the DX-7 and other digital polysynths came about

Divide their priceing schedule by about a factor of 3 and it seems to be reasonable. I just can't fucking fathom where they came up with $1600 for some and/or gates.
