Wisp - The Shimmering Hour

Yesterday I walk into my local "indie" CD shop to check out some used CDs, and as I approach the rack I hear Wisp come blasting out of the speakers! Not only did my shop have a Wisp release, they were playing it and had it in there "Now Playing". It's really cool to see an musician transition from the netlabel work into the record label world.

Of course I had been waiting to hear this until my fucking Amazon ships, and that was sneak preview. Shit sounded awesome.

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

Awesome... I don't think I have ever heard IDM music of any kind in a record shop... :(

I've heard IDM playing before, but nothing as underground as Wisp.

i cannot imagine listening to this, say next autumn or so

I agree..Wisp's music always seems to have a sort of "autumnal overcast sky" feeling to it...the only notable exceptions to that sound is Honor Beats and Building Dragons. Those records are more suited for the spring and summer. Well to me, anyway.

just got my copy from bleep and am listening now... i think i can easily say already that this is wisp's best disc to date. the production is so clean and professional, the artwork rocks, the melodies are even more thought-out and lush than usual... it's like this whole record snorted crushed diamonds and pixie dust and cherry slurpee. 5 out of 5. A+. rephlex needs to release more wisp really soon.

upon multiple listens, i am astounded by this record. this is truly feel-good music. i just smile when this is on. really great to see ol' wispy get his. not just a decent rephlex record, but a GREAT one. one of a short list of my favs on that label. that's saying something.

PS: the rock drumming on fire above rules so hard. what an epic piece of music.

the beginning of "Hexenringe" reminds me of times I feel absolutely terrible which, somehow, feels good :undecided:

lol this morning at work i herd "freak" by lfo playing.

and i work at macy's as a maintenance guy.

you hardly, HARDLY hear any idm in macy's.

so i danc'd and flail'd as the song play'd.

ye. cool.

UPDATE:

I OWN THIS ALBUM NOW. I PLAYED IT IN THE CAR REALLY LOUD. RULED

here are the things I like about this album so far:

1. it's fucking long. that's value for my money, dudes.

2. it sounds good. there's fizzy synth shit everywhere that is crispy and then there's also that deep-ass semi-tuned wooly kick sound that is so dope.

3. breakbeats through some filter automation. who else has the balls to just straight-up wobble a filter over some beats here in 2009 in a non-ironic way? nobody.

4. all the tracks kinda segue into each other, but not really. but sort of, only in a subtle non-gimmicky way. nice.

5. the artwork is charming and a little weird but extremely REAL. no fucking environment-mapped exploding metal gundam suits on this cover, bro.

6. ... more to come i'm sure

Thanks. I'm glad you like the art.

I can't wait to get the LP so I can see the art a bit closer... I already love it actually. Good job patter!
