Beautiful Friday here, sun is out! Here's some weekend tunage for your listening pleasure. Love to have your feedback on these.

Thanks for listening!

Begin Anew Section A

This is the one I'm most happy with - always a challenge for me to create longer structures - so this is one I'm liking the development on.

101.5 Beats

This is what I do a lot to generate material, it's my Chemical Brothers thing, where I have it change every 2 or 4 bars. Then I'll pull out my favorites and make new things out of those. If you hang to the end, that's where I think the best stuff is. For comments, just let me know the minute and second of what you likes.

Testing 87 to 123

For those who like Squarepusher's bass playing, this kinda reminds me of that tip. I don't totally love this, but it's done.

my apologies for taking so long to review.

song 1:

groovy bass line to start, but a bit too loose (maybe not deep enough for my tastes, sounds a bit hollow). this section lasts altogether too long IMO. i like the breakdown, sounds great... i wish from there you layered the breakdown noises over the drums and bass. there is altogether too much repetition of that same line in this track. the hard saw noise could be used much more liberally (and mixed a bit better). i like the little 8-bit noises, but, again, they aren't taking me away from the repetitiveness of the d&b. you end this song, much like i wish you had done the whole the... the last quarter, with all of it together sounds good.

song 2:

more aggressive bass than song 1, but it sounds a bit distorted. also, on drums, are you using 808 samples? just curious. again on this one, there are some interesting events that happen along the way, but i don't really get into it until the end. when you add the atmosphere, the depth, and put it all together, it sounds great... just isn't all that great getting there, if you know what i'm saying.

song 3:

much fuller sound here... using much more stereo width, some panning etc. i don't always understand why you pan... but its good at certain sections. the beginning section and what follows don't seem to have much relationship to one another... but i like this second section... it sounds good... the pads, the bass and the delayed strings (or whatever they are). then when the beat drops underneath, it MOSTLY feels really good... but there is every once in a while something that i cannot put my finger on that sounds slightly off... but just slightly. then you return to the bass with a more jazzy melody and i don't like it as much as the middle part of this track.

overall, great work. keep at it!!

cheers,

eric

#1 was pretty cool. groovy, well done, but perhaps not very memorable.

#2 i wasn't a big fan of. it felt disjointed, like a bunch of only-barely related items being stitched together.

#3 i really liked. definitely squarepushery, not just in the bass. the effected-out percussion in that one part was quite cool.

Hey, its all good stuff mate. Very well put together, just really not my thing. But I can appreciate how well done it is. If i could compare it to anything I would say they sound like the Menu screen on Sky TV we have in england. I reckon you could make money off your stuff by going down that path.

Thanks, appreciated. I wish I knew some good paths to go down to get my music out there. That's why I was pleased to find this forum, though it is quite specific to a certain genre, and I don't always fit it.

cheers,
