Rubin Farr
went through a million names back in the 90s producing shitty sequencer tracks with my friends. the one i've settled on lately for doing mixes is Spock Jenkins, from an Eddie Murphy movie. Guest aeser
it's my graffiti name since 1991, just took it as my online persona name and thus my electronic music producing name from there on out. originated for me when i was 16 in a community college drama class going over aeschylus, the greek play write. we were abbreviating all the peoples names so his name was abbreviated as "aes", and i really liked the way those 3 letters looked so i used them ever since as either aes/aeser/aesone/whatever. my real first name is jason and while reading about the classic greek "jason" as in member of the argonauts posse, i learned that his father, the rightful king's name was aeson. which kind of blew me away as i'd been using such a similar name not knowing of this fact all this time. though i realize it's not nearly as mind blowing to anyone else. QBLA
asymmetrical head: back in 1995, i was studying criminology (before i made the switch to graphic design) and i was in my infancy dj stage. i didn't have a dj name and i wanted to have a name without the "DJ" prefix. i came up with 1999 and 2001... but they never clicked and the more i thought about it, they sounded stupid. then one day in class, the professor was talking about some criminals at the turn of the 20th century that were refered to as "asymmetrical heads" do to their oddly shaped craniums. i wrote it down and used it eversince! quiliuq: a few years ago, i made some tracks that were rather minimal, techno, 4x4 type stuff. i thought these tracks don't fit with my asymmetrical head alias. so i started brain storming for another name. i was watching galaxy quest one day and there's a character named quillek. thought the name sounded rather minimal style, so i changed the spelling to quiliuq! cecile cooper: i always liked his name since i was a kid. wanted to use it for something. so like whenever i do trip hoppish, hip hoppish stuff, i use this alias... but i'm going to change it to chizzle... my old breakdancing name! Guest Helper ET
when i was still in the womb, i knew about the creative genious i would later become, so i decided to choose an alias at a young age. not knowing any better, i thought "warm and gooey" was pretty cool. after i was born, i decided i liked warm and not wet much better, so i switched my name to warm, dry, and liking it. after more time, i got into a phase where i didn't like to wear clothes, and even though my parents forced me to wear something, i insisted on running in the nude. this is when i changed my name to DJ Nudee. i was 2 years old and i was scratchin discs and spittin the dopest flows. a few months later, i realized i was far too gangster to be living with my parents, so i crawled away from home. not much later, i hit the streets, joined a gang in compton, and switched my name to lil' hobo. i rapped the streets and earned my street cred. this is when i fell in love, with a girl named julie, and we were meant to be together. things were going amazing, when, i came home one day to find a letter on the dresser telling me that i'd never see her again. i was shocked and appalled. i changed my name to MC LovrBoy. i thought i could rap my way back into her heart. it turns out she wasn't black enough, and my failed attempts at rapping her back led me feeling embarrassed and confused. after a few months later, i fought my way out of the depressive slump i was in, and made a come back with my new hit song "still the same African American", debuting my newest alias, " DJ Darkie". i toured europe and the states. they love me over there Edited July 20, 2008 by Helper ET Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/35752-how-did-your-artist-name-come-to-be/page/2/#findComment-777419 Share on other sites
