Bizarre...I really have no clue what this is. My first instinct is that this is obviously fake, but then how do you get it distributed on iTunes?

I'm awaiting e-mail of an iTunes gift voucher so I can give this a shot. I know I'll be regretting the expense soon enough, though, as I have little doubt that this is fake. Somebody's going to be laughing all the way to the bank on this one. Still, need to be sure, right?

it's autechr-esque style, a bit older than 1996, probably 1995

It would have to be 1995 at the latest, at least in part, as the Black Dog split up in '95, and I highly doubt there would be a Ken Downie solo remix of an Autechre track, particularly one that sounds like that.

Half of me is fighting the urge to download this while the other's telling me not to be a dickhead and waste money on what can only be a cunning fake. This will inevitably result in me downloading it anyway and feeling fucking stupid afterwards when it's all exposed as a fraud. I feel like I did the first time I downloaded Mum's 'Hooper Bay'.

On the other hand, I can't see how iTunes would be that stupid if it is fake. I might email Warp (after I've d/l'ed).

Okay, so the card I ordered isn't showing up, but I had 300 Yen on credit, so I grabbed 2 tracks, and I'm quite confident that this is neither Ae nor Black Dog. It also isn't circa 1995/'96 either, as it sounds just like the guff that everybody and his dog was churning out by the truckload in '99-'01. Very unconvincing.

In fact, I am sufficiently confident that it is a fake (even despite the use of a vocal sample that sounds remarkably similar to one used in PIOBmx19) that I'm going to submit the two tracks I have so you can see for yourselves. Umm... in lo-rez MP3 format so it isn't actually pirating. Normally I would never distribute something a band still has financial interest in, but Ae aren't getting a penny from this, I'd stake my as-yet-nonexistent reputation on it.

Here it is: call me a cynic, but it's a fraud, not a Black Dog mix...

I can't help but finding this really exciting! I mean yeah, it probably is fake but I just don't understand where it came from, which makes it really interesting, how did it get on iTunes AND Amazon... if it is fake, then it raises interesting questions about fraud and the digital age of distribution... it's so much more fascinating than a fake on like soulseek or something...

Agreed, it really is intriguing that something that's 99% fake/mis-tagged has got to be distruibuted like this. and I wonder if some of BoC's fake back catalogue (you know, the ones made from Look around you, mum, and the radom tracks in the old tunes trilogy) will ever make an appearance for the same reasons..

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
