So how on earth does itunes actually get it's music? Cos this is obviously not Autechre... I would have thought there'd be like some representative from the label they have to talk to or something... and sign loads of contracts and that sorta thing...

someone somewhere must have put the kibosh on this Sto Lend EP on the net, but who was it? If it was Warp or Autechre they never publicly talked about it

i bought this when it came out. i knew it wasn't ae but still actually kinda dug the songs. it's a somewhat decent attempt at a tri repetae style ep. sucks i had to pay for though to ease my curiosity.

which site did you get it from? itunes? the album cover is still up with track names form a lot of the other mp3 sites like napster and rhapsody but the tracks are no longer purchasable.

thanks! it worked fine.

listening now, almost finished the first track, it's actually really good. very obviously not autechre but a nice pastiche. i have a feeling i might actually listen to this quite often! if only someone could find out who it really is.

In 2008 an Autechre EP was released titled Sto Lend. It was

released as a lost collection of tracks by the duo circa

1996-'97. The truth is, although it was made during that

time period, it wasn't Autechre but by a group called

Autopilot. O...riginally this EP was produced after a self

titled limited edition CD by the duo of Se Jun Ho & Derek

Marin and never released. What does tie this EP to Autechre

themselves (other that it sorta does sound like them) is

that some of the sounds where recycled from programed beats

that were left on Roland R8 drum machine after a Warp event.

Sean Booth & Rob Brown actually borrowed equipment from

Derek Marin for the live show Autechre performed at a Blech

party in NYC & in the process left beats on the machine. The

beats were later used to create some of this recording. How

the Sto Lend EP was released as an Autechre project is not

known but now it is finally available under it's true

identity. To sum up: Yes it's not Autechre, Yes it was

produced in 96/97, yes it does have some beats programmed by

Autechre themselves & yes the Sto Lend EP was previously

released by someone unknown under false pretenses.
