Guest Yegg
No input mixer feedback is easy enough. But the Little Boy Blue synth is cool too, if you ever change your mind. kaini
it's pretty easy to make a 'fake' theremin (ie one that doesn't act on the principle of heterodynic variable capacitation) using two photoresistors, a transistor, a few capacitors, and a power source. Guest Tamas
Buy a bunch of effects pedals. Essentials: At least 1 delay pedal, distortion would be quite nice as well Then get a few more. Creating feedback loops on pedals (especially with a delay pedal) can create really cool noise/industrial sounds, and it's really fun overall as well. If you get 2-3 chains going, it can get really interesting. Throw some minimalist drum beat with a guitar/synth and maybe some vocals would be pretty cool I think. Check Craigslist often, you'll probably get lucky sooner or later and find someone willing to sell a ton of pedals for good prices. But yeah, half of the greatness behind good noise music is innovation, and well, a style of your own. So just experiment with gear and maybe buy a soldering iron and build some circuits. Guest Glass Plate
CATS said: i'm looking to dabble into the noise/industrial scapes, any advice on instruments or electronics to get into that? not looking for a synth. in b4 theremin how could you say industrial music, and then say NO SYNTHS? that's practically a fucking oxymoron, you are a fool. Pretty much all the staples of industrial I know extensively (often almost exclusively) use synths. Of course when it comes to that, if you want to use what they used, you're looking for some crazy possibly expensive vintage gear. ( the Ms-20 is a popular one, not only is it great for industrial, but every one from Aphex to Mr. Oizo uses it) Merzbow and many others use EMS synthi etc. There's a bigger problem than just excluding synths though, making noise is a VERY broad term, and there are tons of subgenres and styles that can fit into the term. Saying "make noise" is almost as bad as "I want good timbre" , be more fucking specific. What artist's style are you looking for? Are we talking Whitehouse harsh noise? Gereogegege Screaming? Stock Hausen Bloops? Subotnik Bleeps? Concrete sampled sounds? Plunderphonics? feed back? screeches? ten fingers ten toes
"Industrial" in its original and most pure form is more about banging on metal pipes with other metal pipes and that sort of thing. Stuff like Throbbing Gristle, which is just people banging on shit, taped, then distorted and looped over itself into a mishmash of nonsense noise, with the occasional bit of singing/screaming thrown in. No synths at all. Sometimes people mean this when they say industrial. Othertimes, people mean getting ass fucked by a gay German named Dieter while listening to Covenant. If thats what CATS meant then all he needs is a copy of Reason, a handfull of pills, and a bottle of astroglide. Still others will claim that.... Really just fuck Industrial because nobody can even agree what it is or isn't. You basically have to infer through context clues which Industrial people are talking about.
