what's the best sequencing software for n00bs?

I've started with reason 2.0 and became quite happy with possibilities it offered, especially after releasing version 3.0. However, I would recommend sampling sounds from mic or analogue synth/rythm machine because reason sounds get weary.
Also, in that LV interview Luke said that he made loads of bass tunes by cutting pieces from a session played on Moog synth.
Keith from Prodigy also said in interview for propellerheadz that he still samples loads of
sounds from machines and uses about 50% of reason sounds.
So I guess a golden ratio could be achieved by using reason + sampled machines cause they just kick ass.
