Ive got no experience with Interface systems atall, how good would you consider the Saffire Proplus to be mr hathat and welcome

i notice that you say hathats RME 800 is a decent midrange interface, but google shopping is turfing it out at close to a grand.

Yeah, I only say midrange because there is significantly higher you can go to! For example the pro tools system at my work is insured for £12,000 and its not as though it has excessive ins and outs.

at the just over a grand mark you get things a bit up on the rme like the apogee ensemble, I'd say that and beyond is when you stat getting into 'high' end.

Theres not really a step between £50-£250 interfaces and the significantly better £500-£1000 stuff apart from maybe the lower end MOTU stuff, which is kind of lower mid range I guess, these days anyway.

But, in comparison to what most producers who dont work in big studio's use the rme is certainly high end, and it sounds great. Comparable to the top end gear.

Also, never discount second hand, I got my uln2 (which is a great sounding simple 2 in 4 out + 2 digi in and 2 digi out interface) for £400 and they retail for nearer 700 (though I think they are harder to find without the dsp option these days, which pushes them up to over a grand). and its fine. Sound on sound reader ad's is a good place.

I dunno, its all down to how good they sound at the end of the day, things like the RME sound really good, things like the delta 1010 sound flat and things like a pro tools hd system sound pretty much as good as you can get. so the rme falls neatly in the midrange but by that I dont mean its a nice thing for a budding enthusiast, you can get really top results out of it. and you damn well should be able to for £800!

Good quality audio gear is very, very expensive, and spending just generates more spending. I just got a liquid channel and the first thing I noticed when I used it on my home speakers (where I will normally be using it) was 'these speakers aren't good enough to do it justice...'

i'll be living off of pasta and noodles for a few more months yet..
