hey i happened to email Plaid and got an answer, about the delay of the release of Scintilli and they stated:

"Delays have been due to our various collaborations and because we haven't been totally happy with it until quite recently.

There is also a 4/5 month gap from mastering to release in order to arrange press/gigs to support the release."

(this i was guessing too, cause the ,, yes the Southbank Gamelan Players and whatever the others are, yes they're, for me, doing,,,well,,how to say,,, i m not satisfied with them collaborating with, what??? some minimalistic musicians....

then i asked: "what did "it is in itself free" mean?? you had written this down in your first reply to me, when you were explaining why music making is harder nowadays." and they wrote (as Sirch guessed right):

"Many people tend to illegally download rather than pay for their music these days because they can. We expect this next release will be leaked 4 to 6 weeks before

the official release date. There's no way to avoid it. We know of several artists who've quit because the years they've spent crafting their music, which though well

received and enjoyed by many, yields little financial reward. Though public awareness and profile is great it can't be used to pay the rent."

then again,,,my Q: when is scintilli coming out?

A: "Sorry, really can't say at present"

grrrr..

so yes, i think they have the material ready already! :) but again, im not too expectant cause, whenever i be that, sth bad comes out... anyways...

thought i had to share what they wrote to me (very kindly)..

cheers people..

Guest sirch

thanks for sharing that, the plaided.

must admit i download leaks and things for free, as do most of us if we're honest, like Plaid say, because you can!

BUT, i will always go and buy something once it's been released properly if i really like it.

and i will most definitely be buying Scintilli! and going to the nearest gig to me that they do. can't wait! it won't be long now.

i predict summer/autumn this year.

well yes to be honest i DLed some of their stuff for free, too. thats a shame i know, yes. but i am gonna pay for their future releases (i hope there ll be like 20 more ) and yes i m gonna re-buy double figure and spokes if i quite like Scintilli! :shuriken:

we as fans may even,,,act and,, upon the release of Scintilli, report the leaks or whatsoever free-shares, to warp or to whomever it is..i definitely am gonna do that if i know how to do it,

i think the only things by Plaid that i've downloaded for free (and not paid for *slapped wrist*) have been their 2 soundtracks, because you couldn't actually buy them anywhere at first, especially in the UK, for ages, from what i remember. i don't even know if you can, still. haven't looked into it.

that, plus some of the more rare Black Dog stuff and older oddities/remixes that are too hard to find/too costly to purchase anywhere.

everyone's guilty of it. (probably even Plaid themselves, no doubt) some more than others though.

and i must say that if Scintilli is leaked "6 weeks" before release then i will most probably go and download it from somewhere or listen to it from someone else who has, just because i REALLY want to hear it!! that said though, i will still buy it. 'cos i want to support them and hope they continue to make oustandingly beautiful, and weird, music. :)

Edited by sirch

congrats then, sirch. youre a good Plaid fan, that's without doubt !

and yes, early Black Dog work, the soundtracks,,,they were so badly marketed...

what about the soundtrack of Hope? it s not out anywhere yet....if not on some distant galaxy :p

'Heaven's Door' has been up on Bleep for years. In fact probably not all that long after you registered on WATMM (although I'm slightly durnk ATM so can't be arsed to verify shit).

for the record.. i've bought 99% of Plaid and The Black Dogs vinyl releases... downloaded CD's and digi releases.

call me old fashioned, but i only spend physical cash on physical stuff.

really?

i didn't think it came out til 5 months after i registered. Dec '08. 2 and a bit years ago...

if i can buy a physical copy anywhere i will. same goes for Tekkon Kinkreet.

money's so tight atm though, and Bleep don't need anymore of my money.

i'd rather just send Ed&Andy 30 quid, than pay to download digital files (again).

Yeah, as I remember the actual CD came out right at the end of December, but I think it was on Bleep not long after. I mentioned your join date as you would definitely been around here when HD was Bleeped. As for the physical versions though, fuck knows where you'd get them over here. I was voluntarily fleeced and bought them from HMV Japan.

Reminds me, I've never picked up the Tekkon remix album (shame on me), I will do regardless when I'm flush, but is it up to much?

oh right. well i didn't use to come here often til about a year ago, even though i registered 3 years ago. i've only really been active here for about a year, if that. so i think i missed the news about it being on Bleep.

yeah, that's what i mean, you couldn't get it here. dunno if you can now. and i didn't really want to buy it from Japan. probably couldn't of afforded it at the time either.

as for the remix album, what i've heard of it is 'ok'. some good tracks on there but i haven't been that motivated to buy it. haven't downloaded it either. it's worth checking out though.

Tekkon remix album is worth getting i guess, even though i only really liked a few tracks.

Intro (My Kung Fu Remix By Derrick May) is epic!!!

Snakes Lair (8-Bit Remix) is a great track too - interesting as well as i've never heard the original Plaid version.

Hmmm, has anyone heard the original "Snakes Lair"?

Yeah, I had to ask my uncle to pick Heaven's Door and Tekkonkinkreet whilst he was out there. Otherwise I would have just imported them.

Luckily, for me, my uncle picked up the Heaven's Door DVD as well :)

hey yes the 8 bit remix is great, so great that i looked for them artists, but as far as i remember now, i had come across some shitty rap band. i was so disappointed:( or was i wrong? was that another band called 8 bit..

I beyond hiding under the "I dont have a job so I cant pay for things" shelter.

I will pay for this when it comes out. Ive bought other Plaid release before, just not all of em :whistling:

Same for me, just the soundtracks (because I can't find physical copies that don't cost over $30). Had they had domestic releases, I would have picked them up immediately. All the others I purchased new & unheard...as I intend to do with Scintilli. The anticipation has been huge, but sometimes that makes me want to wait till I hold the package in my hands even more. Plaid has been special to me and I don't want to spoil that...I want the old school experience when it arrives.

Hi sidewinder, i think i'm gonna do that, too.. now you mention it, it would be much more of an exciting and rewarding experience in the end, to actually wait for the real thing to come through your letterbox... or go to an actual 3-D shop and buy the physical item like in 'the old days', lol.. then take it home and put the record/CD on.

s'gonna be really hard to resist listenting to the leak, tho!! for a whole month in advance, or thereabouts. very hard. but well worth it in the end, just for that old school experience and buzz.

and hey, i spose we've all waited this long anyway,.. years and years, so what's another few months or so, eh :)

Ya know, it's been so long since I haven't previewed a release by downloading it before I purchase it that I've forgotten about doing it any other way. Plaid is one of the few that I can actually purchase an album with confidence and not be disappointed later... so I'm gonna do the same.

Like sirch said, it will be soooooooooooooo difficult, but I'm gonna wait until I own a physical copy of Scintilli and listen to it for the first time from beginning to end with headphones, like the good ol' days. :music:

 It will be difficult, but we can do it!

Most times even if I intend to download/preview an album before purchasing (if I purchase it at all), I avoid the leak period and wait till the release date. I'm a stubborn old guy...still attached to real release dates.

Its kind of funny that plaid cry over losing money with leaks while you can't buy Tekkonkinkreet in regular stores not to say on vinyl
