what makes you say that?

the whole 'off the grid' movement really irritates me. Sometimes the music is so loose and just a bad beat and these type of musicians get away with it because its 'on purpose'

this song i think is a perfect example of this, the beat is not catchy and its not staggered or loosened in an interesting way its just slightly wonky to be trendy. sorry im just really not in a mood to be positive rifght now

i think some flying lotus and hudson mo is actually good, its just weird to me that this extremely smashed/side chained 'off the grid' sound is becoming in part the new popular sound people are trying to imitate.

i used to like writing beats in soundforge. i still do but lots of things on my soundforge stopped working about a year ago and i havent sorted it out. i agree "that" sound is reaching saturation point. its ironic how something that should supposedly stand out as different to all the quantised electronic music in the world (nearly all of it) should so quickly sound the same as itself in every track you hear this sort of thing. i can't listen to crying over pros any more (not that that is exactly this sort of thing). anyway Rustie is shit

much better said than I

when i said that 'people are trying to imitate' i was mainly speaking from my own experiences in the music scene here in san francisco/oakland. Already i hear a lot of bedroom producers and up and coming musicians doing this sound in my area.

the only song of his that i've heard is trace, which is quality tricked out hip hop. i'll need to look into his other releases for more stuff.

nope - defo 2 separate guys, but both been involved in the same local nights, both had early releases on a local label called Stuff Records (or Rustie did anyway, maybe Mokawke didnt) and are similar ages. There seems to be a little pack of blighters cranking out stuff at the minute.

one thing i will say i admire about this type of music is i cant imagine anybody dancing to it in clubs, its just way too fucking off kilter and collagey sounding, not specifically this song but other stuff ive heard from Rustie and Hudson mohawke.

I have to give the music credit for somehow breaking into the trendy circles. Its probably the most rhythmically challenged music ive seen gain traction in dance clubs.

Example: i walked into a smoke shop in berkeley last week and they were playing some really staggered unquanitized sounding stuff

i asked what it was and the girl behind the counter said 'HudMo' i was like what? and she repeated 'Hudson Mohawke'

Guest greenbank

i've heard some pretty cool stuff by rustie but not by hudson mohawke. i heard he'd been signed a while back and the godawful artist name rang a bell - turns out i suffered through a chunk of a live set by him in edinburgh last year, least the upside is my crappy free cd i got might ebay for a bit in the future if everyone else doesn't agree that he's shite... or he goes good...

sadly not, though I'm sure I mind you posting this in the Ae subforum back shortly after the gig (April wasn't it?). I was standing to the left, just off camera by the looks of it - couldn't have been too far from the dude in the white vest. Occassionally went back to the bar behind the camera and spent bit of time just standing on periphery at the back, to the left of the FOH booth.

Still miffed at not getting a desk feed of that gig, i've completely forgotten it now... I'm sure I was being given the rubber ear when I was told there wasn't one. Maybe ask again now that some time has passed...

Nah, i never posted this i found it on google images yesterday, first time I've seen this photo. The pics i posted were taken from the perspective of the person saying "yeah". I recall seeing some jakeball in the audience with a tiny mic though, fucker must have forgot to get batteries for it.

that Hudson Mohawke track sounds a teensy bit like a Max Tundra track, though not nearly as well thought out.

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.
