well i could definitely see how it could go over like gangbusters in the US. it's "different" (brown people speaking english) yet it still has the type of drama everyone here craves.

I thought it was really fun to watch, like a music video. I think 'crowd-pleaser' really sums it up.

I wished I knew more about the historical and cultural context, because I didn't have much of an idea of what events exactly I was seeing depicted, what in the history he was referencing.

To me, that girl is not just hot but beautiful, in the sense that you almost feel she deserves you do something reverent like say a little prayer before you rub one out to her.

Well there is a surprise.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

Squalor of India + HD photography + MIA in the soundtrack does not = good.

Quite simply, you can't get more ridiculous or loltastic than the ending, either.

Nobody here found this to be utterly patronizing? It doesn't help that the film crew treated the locals like shit and didn't even fucking pay them.

This film was Born Into Brothels meets Generic Hollywood Formula. Guild-ridden centrist liberal nonsense!

Mirezzi, if they wanted to show the slums of India, and made it a total depressing super indie film, than they'd only be talking to the people who've already seen it.

It makes a lot of sense really to put in bullshit like MIA to appeal to the mass audience, it's worth it to get that chance to also show the poverty. Not to mention it's following it's own geographical tradition of bollywood.

yeah man spot on, entirely condescending tripe through and through. people who think this is acceptable cinema should go watch shallow grave and remember how great danny boyle used to be (except the beach)

also, i like your avatar dude, i just wrote an article on the shining last week

so you hated it like I did?

Probably more. I really just thought it was a fucking mess...an incredibly disingenuous one at that.

It must be said, however, that the script was the worst part of the movie. As much as I blame Boyle for its shortcomings, it's not like I'd want any filmmaker to take on this script.

never have I like Boyle, have seen Trainspotting one and a half times...

and almost everything at an average of a half watching.....

when given the choice I have turned most of his films off towards the middle....
