chenGOD
All the MyDrive or One-touch maxtor things or whatever the fuck bullshit Seagate offeres are fucking shit. Stay away from those things that come in an enclosure already. Just buy a HD, buy a case, slap the fucking drive in the case and back up your shit. Guest Glass Plate
yeah usually if they're "Sleek" and "small" they're going to be more expensive than some of the bulky ones. I got a 1tb Calvary for like 100$ which has the exact same insides as a Western Digital. Before that I had a 500 gig WD. (still have it) Edited January 14, 2009 by Glass Plate Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/41635-buying-an-external-hd/page/2/#findComment-922690 Share on other sites

Guest hahathhat
i like zip drives. i still have two... but they're on a shelf, instead of in computers. i also have like 30 zip disks in crazy colors ^_^ edit: i never liked WD as a hard drive brand, usually when i've had failures it's been WD. that being said, i haven't bought their drives much over the last ten years. been happy with seagate as a brand in general. Guest Helper ET
fuck you Zdata! so i was stuck with this best buy gift certificate, and i so im like, shit, i do need a hard drive. so i drive all the fucking way across the city to the nearest best buy, and i buy this cheap ass 500 GB external hard drive by "Zdata" for $100. Yay! i thought i had won. that is until i wake up this morning to find my giant downloads stuck at half way and broken, and the light on the hard drive (power light?) is flickering and i cursed and cursed inside my soul. now i have to drive all the fucking way back to best buy to hopefully get a refund, but they will probably make me exchange it for another shitty ass hard drive that wont work either. chenGOD said: All the MyDrive or One-touch maxtor things or whatever the fuck bullshit Seagate offeres are fucking shit. Guest sysex
I run two d4 Lacie 500gig drives. They cost around 150-170$ They have support for USB2, Firewire 400/800 and eSATA I've been using lacie drives for close to 8 years now... only problem i've ran into with them is once in a blue moon a power supply will fail and make you think you just lost all your data. Other than that, they are pretty solid. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/41635-buying-an-external-hd/page/2/#findComment-936340 Share on other sites

Joyrex
Seconded on the LaCie - Acomdata is another reliable brand I can personally vouch for... I have a 160GB drive I've had for almost 5 years now, and still works. I don't leave it on any longer than I have to.
