quick question about the PS3

WAT - I thought you had a PS3, considering your Wipeout love...

I think we had this discussion before but Wipeout 1-3 are amazing and set a bar for racing which has yet to be reached. However, everything from Fusion and on has been an abomination. I heard pure was a "return to form" bought it, lost interest immeaditly when I thought I was playing fancy mario kart. Play wipeout XL and try one of the newer ones immeaditly after (any of them) and you'll see my point. Doesn't mean it's not cool, just not "wipeout". That's why i'm rocking the ps2/360 combo. If the ps3 was 200-300 I'd consider one for MGS4/Gran Turismo/Blu-Ray.

Otherwise I have... REZ HD, SF HD, IKARUGA HD, BRAID, Katamari, Mirror's Edge, Halo3, Cod4, Madden 2009, Bioshock, Dead Space, NHL, FORZA all on the 360... with better online. And RROD is about as old as rickrolling.

Ha, typing that out makes it seem like I play 24/7 which unforunately I don't have much time for.

Wipeout HD looks pretty but it's about 50 million times harder than Wipeout 3. I wanted to like that game so much but couldn't beat anything in the second tier of races.

LOL, BluRay is a joke.

Here's a brilliant idea: Let's create a new physical video format right when all physical media is dying off and being replaced by digital!

Honestly, it's pretty sweet. I watched a couple blu-ray over a friends and it's crystal-f'n-clear and comes with a ton of extras. DVD although still looks great, is noticebly worse. However, like I said, is it worth rebuying your collection? No.

or you could just buy/rent digital HD versions...

is fallout 3 worth getting for the ps3? ive heard so many good things about it.

also, the elder scrolls...a good rpg?

Honestly, I've heard that the PS3 version has issues, but have since released a patch for it - depends if you like Fallout. Watch some videos, read some reviews, see what you think.

It really all remains to be seen how comfortable people are with not having a physical copy of something... sure, Mp3s are doing well, but larger, more expensive things like HD movies... and then, where to store all that...

I know! burn it all to physical media! LOL

No, certainly not replacing your entire collection - I personally only buy my most favourite movies anyway, on DVD or Blu-Ray...

And then, figure out where to keep it all (assuming you don't rent it)

well, for me, it most certainly is not. while HD downloadable content is good, i have not experienced the same quality from downloaded HD content that i have from blu ray discs.

i have A/B compared downloaded HD content and blu ray content and the compression artifacts (particularly in the blacks) of the downloaded content is far greater. to me, the dynamic range and clarity of the audio are also noticeably better with blu ray.

for now.

i do think that eventually bandwidth and storage will get to the point that downloadable content will match the compression levels (or lack thereof) that blu ray currently enjoys, but it's not there yet as far as i'm concerned.

admittedly, i'm picky about this stuff, and i watch / listen on some pretty high-end and critical gear, which of course emphasises any artifacts.

that aside, i believe the PS3 is, hands-down, the best component in our home theatre setup. not only are the games great (i have the x360 as well, and in terms of graphics, etc. they're as near as maybe to me), but it's fantastic as a media center. i run twonkymedia on my mac, and have a hard drive loaded to the gills with every TV series i've ever liked, and it all streams effortlessly and wirelessly to the PS3. as does my entire itunes library. not to mention direct HD and SD video downloads and rentals right from the playstation store, great online gaming, REALLY fun downloadable mini-games.

the x360 has most of this stuff as well, granted, but the interface feels more clunky and awkward - i guess more like a gaming system to me, whereas the PS3 offers an interface that is much cleaner and easy to navigate.

it's all horses for courses, and you can't really go wrong with any system, but i wholeheartedly endorse the ps3.

enjoy!

I got Fallout 3 for PS3 and have had no problems with it. Framerate, textures, & controls are all fine. In fact, it's far less buggy than Oblivion on 360.

ill hold on to regular Rez and my ps2 then for the time being.

why the fuck wouldnt they release it on the ps3?

Exclusivity clause from Microsoft. Same reason so many other things are 360 only.

Get Everyday Shooter, though. It's basically just like Rez but it's a side scrolling twin stick shooter instead of a rail shooter, and indie rock instead of house.
