cool. I had another idea involving the idea that instead of defining the timeline of the song, you could define the way the instrument in constructed. For example I would use abstract symbols and built a diagram similar to a circuit diagram and let the artist interpret what each symbol means. The result could be a way of patching a synth or a way of routing midi or what ever else you could imagine.

the arecibo message looks like the coolest one to try. incidentally i think boxcutters new album on mu is called arecibo message.

the arceibo message made an early impression on me in this regard -- in middle school, they put it up on a projector, split everyone off into groups, and told us to decide what it meant.

of course i thought of it when i saw this topic...
