He wasnt askin for track names, just how to come up with them.

In that sense he is just asking for ideas for the creative process, not the final creative product.

Personally I just keep alert all day. Whenever I hear words that sound pretty interesting/not said often I just take mental note, and then when I need to write track titles I dip into that little library off oddities and tidbits to come up with something cool. I dont like the whole 3FG%.v2 naming scheme thing, I prefer real words, OR imaginary but pronouncable or semi-pronouncable names.

Also anything that can be pronounced multiple ways is good, leaving a certain amount of ambiguity in the track title is key because IDM has alot of ambiguity in the music so if you leave the name open ended it tends to fit better.

Good example is Teartear and Windwind, both ae tracks that have several different possible pronunciations.

Try to avoid using food words like an above poster, it just sounds corny (lol). Obscure nouns are good, try to juxtapose two ideas that are somewhat different but somewhat the same. Using two words that are extremely unrelated will jar too much.

Man I have way too much time on my hands.

ohhh we're being harsh.

the point is, i get bored with anything when it looks/sounds like the artist said "what am i supposed to do here? what's expected of me?"

i'd be a lot more interested in your IDM tracks if the names didn't sound very "IDM."

you don't want to make something that fits in - there's an unlimited amount of that shit. you want to make something that stands out. so listen to your tracks (and i agree... smoke something while you're at it), close your eyes and see what pops into your head. there's your track name. extra points if it doesn't sound like an IDM track.

yeah, that's basically how idm track titles started out, but now it's such a cliche that you blend in by coming up with 'idm' track titles.

personally, i just use wordplays most of the time. i hardly ever try to make up words anymore.

Dear K-dog

Do not avoid using Cars or Sexual References or especially Food for track titles. You will make alot of money this way. In fact, use Money in track titles. Depending on your decided markets, you may have to employ a colloquialism, like "bling", "hot wings" or "pussy".

Track titles that reference the sensitive state of mind of the artist are what are corny. Startling juxtaposition like "Frozen TIger Tomb" should only be used as a last resort, as they give the appearance of having no control what so ever.
