Yes, because I'm more likely to drink 8 beers than 8 cans of Mountain Dew when I go out, plus it's easier on my liver, and I tend not to do stupid shit like drunk drive, break stuff around the neighborhood, and fuck up my body [pull a couple muscles, like earlier this week] when I drink a 20oz of cola.

but does it have to be mountain dew? maybe i'm just paranoid, but the fact that it's the same color as the glowing plutonium from the simpsons opening credits just scares me. and it seems to have an eerie glow from within. i just can't help but think of the ooze that mutated the ninja turtles.

Haha, well I'm just saying something other than alcohol. Could be coffee, or juice. I'm a fan of caffeine, so I choose between one or the other most of the time.

im getting pretty bad atm, im drinking heavily about 2/3 times a week, doesn't sound much but i drink ALOT. also more importantly i cant seem to go out and socialize without it, i tried it a few weeks back and just wanted to go home, i felt out of place and i was all boring and quiet and shit.

how the fuck do i sort this? i cant seem to moderate myself, im either sober or im totally fucking smashed off my face asshole massive regret style. i can see myself slipping into daily drinking if it continues.

um...didn't you go off your meds or something? I'd say get back on them.

yeah i did, i was still drinking alot on them anyway but the side effects were not something i can live with, im currently in the process of being assessed for different ones and may well start a course up next week, see how it goes i guess - might give me the impetus to knock the drink on the head so i can let these meds do what they are supposed to.

kaen, just remember an alcoholic doesn't mean a daily drinker, some alcoholics only drink 3 times a week, its the style and pattern that defines an alcoholic, if you can't drink without becoming powerless and unmanagable, which as you've said already you do then you really need to keep an eye on it, but good that you've got the knowledge before it gets out of hand mate.

sorry, had to requote myself as i'm being serious. i pretend i'm going out for a ciggie and i go buy 8% half litre cans of booze and walk around drinking them so i can hide it from my wife. mostly at night. but it seems like a few of you have been through this........

 

what makes you feel like you want to go grab that drink and what makes you feel like you need to be secretive about it and keep it hidden from your wife? and doesn't she notice when you come back from having a cig and you reek of cheap booze?

i drink because of stress at the moment, things that are stressing me out are not speaking japanese (i am studying), my wife drives me crazy (she just had a baby), not working (unemployed), worrying about what kind of future i have in japan (i hate teaching english), depression ( i feel better after a couple of drinks). i hide it from my wife because she doesnt like me drinking as sometimes i have a binge problem with it and cant stop, plus spending money on it when i really shouldn't with us both not working. its quite cheap to smoke and drink in japan. i need to smoke because it stops me from eating more often (i weight 180, 6 foot, and people keep saying i'm fat WTF?).

because i'm not working and have no money i no longer have a social life. all my english speaking friends are out drinking on friday and saturday nights, even when i did go out with them 80% of the time i would get trashed by 6am anyway.

it took me ages to fin dthis thread... slightly pissed. i've spend mos of my day studying japneese, then i went for a walk to the nearest game centre. had a drink on the way... played my games, and then i heve beeen sneaing ever since. fuck it. sorry for the bumpetc..

congrats EDGEY, i don't i'd be able to last that long without a beer.
