american smarties aren't canadian or european smarties. i think the euro market tried to capitalize on the popularity of the american candy by buying out the name and attaching it to a different product (before the american company could globalize their candy).

I'd recommend some good chocolates from America, but in the process of trying to think of some I realized they were all imported. :|
