Religion has emotional attachments involved which is why it is a difficult topic to take head on in any film or documentary - you can argue that money does, however, it is a fact and indisputable that the majority of the world is living within a monetary system which is influenced by the fractional reserve system. Problems and flaws can very easily be pointed out concerning the theoretical notion of "money" / I ask people - what is there to defend about the monetary system?

One of my housemates is really into the Zeitgeist thing and is doing some sort of speech for it at his uni soon. I'm incredibly skeptical.

If skeptical, please take a look at the presentation. It's live now. Peter the presenter has stated there will be an hour and a half Q and A session.. the questions will be very complex and challenging if you would like to learn more about the ideas and concepts.

I've seen the film, and saying "I'm very skeptical" was a polite way of saying "I think it's horseshit", sorry. I have to put up with enough proselytizing at home.

I found this article quite interesting, regarding the filmmaker's sloppy research on matters of religion: http://www.skeptic.com/eskeptic/09-02-25.html#feature

But I'm really not up for an argument on this, it'll turn into the WTC hologram thing all over again.

Have you watched Zeitgeist Addendum?

The very first Zeitgeist film is good however it ponders too much on global conspiracies and does not look at the root causes of things that happen within our current society. Personally, Peter Joseph should not have attacked religion in the way he did back in the first film. He was not expecting for it to go viral on the internet with millions of views. People kept asking him "so what solutions do you propose"? - all he had done in the first film was outline the problems but did not tackle any root causes and offerred no solutions at all. So, moving on from the first film, Addendum was created and released in Oct '08. At this point in time, he had met Fresco and expanded upon ideas.

You might find that Addendum is much more important than the first film that you have seen, I honestly would not reccomend the first film to too many people as Religion is a very complex subject matter. Iain C - perhaps stick around for the Q and A in the current live presentation in NY? Might answer a few things that you are concerned of..

This is exactly what I'm talking about, the way the people in this "movement" try to get you involved and force their weird conspiracy on you is just plain creepy. You're like Scientologists. "Just watch this video and it'll all make sense..."

So you create an opinion based on something you haven't investigated? Have you watched Addendum or looked into the movement any further?

I watched the film, and I've heard my housemate argue inarticulately about it for hours (along with several other unrelated conspiracy theories he has decided to believe in) and I think it's simply incredible and I very much doubt that watching another video by the same person will make it all click into place, I said I didn't want to argue about it but you're still telling me to watch a video, watch a video, watch a video on the internet and we can fix the world and all of its imaginary problems. Watching videos on the internet is the last bastion of hope for humanity. Youtube is the revolution. Hooray.

all utopians are secretly fascists. They just can't understand why you would want to take drugs, steal, or ride a motorcycle without a helmet. Or gamble, whether in Vegas or on Wall Street. The rush, adaptation, & ect...

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

Iain C - I posted this topic today to encourage people to investigate new information that is on offer this evening right now in New York. Instead, in stating we're like Scientologists, you are encouraging the reader of your post to always take this stance on "new information" or a group of people supporting a new idea. - You're supporting the "us against them" mentality.

Thousands of years of successful and progressive human development? The development of cultures, markets and technologies?

Did you know that people are meeting up wordwide today to promote new ideas? It's not all based on the internet:

I only encourage people to watch the documentaries as I can quite happily discuss this with you via this forum however it will take a long time to type up everything which is demonstrated.

Although this is WATMM and is full of unique opinions, I am not here to argue. I enjoy discussions/

Where did you learn this from? These are not utopian ideas - human emergence is forever gaining momentum and because of this characteristic we perpetuate, we can never reach perfection.

Do you think that the concept of money does not support abundance of resources wordwide? Is it not more profitable to have scarcity - which is an inherently negative concept which the monetary system perpetuates.

The monetary system is outdated - This is because it can not keep up with the current technological capabilites humans have created - because a consequence is technological unemployment. What will people do when machine automation gains further momentum into one of the biggest job sectors - Services? This will cause mass unemployment which is happeneing as I type this message worldwide, day by day. Where will people work after that? This is a significant explanation as to why it is outdated, by far.

We have all been conditioned into this current system, any new idea is seen as a hostile concept which is a great shame..

I watched part of the Addendum thing, and it seemed like it was basically leading up to a Utopian vision. Is the Venus Project notion not utopian?

I think it comes down to whether, when you watch Star Trek: TNG, you imagine their life aboard the Enterprise as being the most ideal community possible, or whether it seems like a kind of hell.

Ok, maybe someday by necessity we'll figure out how to abolish the monetary system and all live in eco-friendly bubbles and we'll genetically engineer out all our imperfections. That will be extraordinarily boring.

I understand your view point however you and I have grown up in this monetary system where we have been socially conditioned to "think" that any other lifestyle associated with what you have described as ecobubbles is boring. We're so used to this current way of living, we don't feel the need to change - but there are so many problems in the world and money is not the solution to continue along with.

The Venus Project promotes a much better society than the one we have today. I remember the quote that went along the lines of "Absolute certainty is the privilege of uneducated minds".. meaning that the ideas we believe can work today may well change and improve by tomorrow, for we are ever emergent species.

The Q and A session is now on in the current live stream of the presentation with Peter Joseph/Jacque Fresco
