my immediate thought was 'twitter' which i dont like so much. i really liked the old redesign that implemented tabs, it got rid of all the application spam bullshit which made things like myspace (fun wall, super wall, funny wall, picture wall etc etc *RAM gets raped*). 4 months later i was still getting 'join this group if u hate the new facebook' invites, the vapid morons, but this time i think it's justified. seems more like you're shouting into the void and seeing who responds, and it'll get clogged up with people doing inconsequential bullshit updates ("__ is hungry" "__ is thinking about muffins teehee" "__ is going to the shop to buy muffins!" "__ just got back from the shops with muffins" "__ loves muffins!").

it's pretty much the same. the tabs are now on the left.

Actually, by making the site operate almost exactly like Twitter does, they have fundamentally changed how Facebook works. In fact, I seriously doubt Facebook would be as popular or have as many users if this was how the original site was created. Think of it this way: the site is now about shouting into the darkness every 20 minutes, hoping someone responds to you. Everything that made Facebook unique and important is now gone, and almost overnight Facebook went from essential to annonying, stupid, and pointless. Because they are specifically choosing not to listen to their own users and admit their mistake (because of pride) facebook will now slowly and gradually die off in the same way friendster did.

This is also a hilarious video about Twitter: http://current.com/items/89891774/supernew...th_twitters.htm

to get the point with the new direction Facebook has chosen to go in

Agreed. It's more 'look at me' than ever, without ever considering its users.

I'm also pretty sure that the primary reason for the most fundamental change (that of merging the live-feed together with the homepage) was to increase revenue. It can't be a mistake that during the design stage they failed to actually make the homepage 'live'. Rather than updating as people interact with the site, we're left to hit refresh and see another 5 adverts.

Unless they change back I think it'll be dead by 2010.

it really is too bad Austria doesn't have the death penalty

No, it's not. That guy deserves to rot in jail.

my profile still has tabs on it, so people can follow my posted links like a google reader shared page, or they can wank to my photos of pizza, or they can read about all the beer i drink.

it's fine w me!

so you think nothing has changed then? Do you choose to not notice it or just don't care?

the change hasn't affected my use of facebook at all

edit: i mean that i dont care

He's actually going to a psychiatric ward (according to what I heard on NPR today).

yeah ok ok, however.. it operates the same way the previous "look" did. just some things look bigger and it has a different layout, and i guess the biggest thing is that it's easier to publish stuff in the main page but you actually have more control on what things you want displayed on the main page. i really don't see any fundamental difference.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

There are so many things that were removed from the homepage that were actually useful. Things like birthdays, events, photos, groups, etc. The right column you have no control over, displays information I don't care about and don't want to see, and also tries to sneak you into looking at and clicking on ads which I absolutely can't stand.

This has now been completly removed and you have no control over what gets published. It's now just 'all or nothing' with emphasis on for you to be constantly updating every few hours (while important things get pushed down towards the bottom of the page). People also no longer have walls, but just an endless stream of commenting on people's status. The site now works in a completly different way. They've esentially become a garbage version of twitter while ignoring and downplaying all the most important parts of facebook (events, sharing photos, semi-public wall posts)
