I Was Young And I Needed The Money! is a sweet album :) if nothing else, this thread can be to appreciate this dude's one and only album.

BUT! i have to ask what your views are on this Florian Schmitt fella. his style is remarkably close to squarepusher's. the album was released when jenkinson was releasing jazzy drum n bass, a year or two after feed me weird things+hard normal daddy were released. it was released on ninja tune, and this could be a way for him to release just that much more over two aliases. not to forgot it's this guys only album.

another thought that crossed my mind was that it could be tom and vibert? i don't really think it sounds all that tom and vibert, but it does have the drum n bass skills that the both of them have shown + lots of samples used in the album (samples = vibert) + vibert is also a ninja tunes dude so it's not that farfetched?

or maybe this really is by a guy called florian schmitt and i'm just being overly suspicious :)

(Bob Wilson) Sorry... you created that reality tunnel, you can find your way out... You built the Trap... you know the design better than anyone...sagatsfz3stage.jpg

Until someone introduces me to Clifford or whatever his real name is, I will always believe Squarepusher was behind some of that album. That Deliver The Weird track is why I believe that.

listen to the track earth vs me

Thank you for this thread, never heard about this album, but I'm at the first song and I already think it's good.

I often can't really be bothered anymore to check out new artists because most of the time they suck, but this one's good, I dig most of Jimmy Edgar's tunes I had never heard, Anthony Rother is kind of good so 2009 is fine so far musically.

The album came out in 1998.

Yeah I mean the year 2009 is fine musically for me personally, discovering good new artists and stuff.

Deliver the Weird sounds a lot like Squarepusher's Theme btw, but I'm not sure it's Tom some tracks don't sound like his typical stuff at all.

yeah. not too sure if most of it really sounds like squarepusher, but the drum programming skillz and overall jazziness of it all, plus its only a year or so after that era of squarepusher so if it just a ripoff then he was awefully speedy about it. still good tho :)

Wow, this is really damn good.

Just made it up to Deliver The Weird and this totally feels like something off of Hello Everything.

Some of it is SO reminiscent of Tobin, though, Like Ms. Looney's Last Embrace. It almost sounds like the whole album is those two trading off.

funny. when i first heard this i was convinced it was a split tobin/squarepusher venture...who knows. i reply to dead thread.

Forgot all about this but I remember it being a solid fun bit of Squarepusher ripping off.

I also recently found this Christoph de Babalon guy who goes firmly into Squarepusher territory in some of his stuff and is also rather good, I think he goes back to the mid 90s too

Both the EP and the album are great. Love them. I have no idea who's behind this florian schmidt alias, but if he's a real person and these are his only two releases it's a goddamned tragedy.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.
