there are a lot of other American IDMists not mentioned, but that's besides the point most of these people are signed to non-American labels or mostly play shows/sell to non-American people, and mostly exist in a global form known as the web. IDM doesn't sell well at ALL in america, it's top places are europe and japan. I definitely see america as being pretty un-IDM really.

ok here, let's be more specific though.

The American Mid-west is super un-IDM.

The Coasts can be ok, ( and detroit)

You could also say Oregon or Seattle.

I have seen shows in America by Marumari, Pan American, Plaid x2, Luke Vibert, Chris Clark, Squarepusher x 2, Autechre x 2, Venetian Snares x 2, Otto Von Schirach, Astrobotnia, Cylob, Bogdan Raczynski, Rob Hall, Russell Haswell, Freeform, lesser, kid606, Sutekh, 8FM, Cex, Stars As Eyes x 2, Proem x 3, Nautilis x 2, Machinedrum, Boom Bip, Nobekazu Takemura, and some others I am forgetting....

albeit most of these shows were back in 2000 - 2004....

America is filled with people with horrible music tastes but I feel lucky to have seen all of these folks....

Have you read any of the other "IDM" threads? "IDM" is a wattum in-joke describing an imagined set of aesthetic ideals. It has nothing to do with music. McGriff explicitly disallows musicians from his "most IDM" polls.

chicago isn't all that idm either. well, the projects WERE, but they tore 'em down. I've been here in st louis almost a year and can say it is the most non-idm thing evar.

2009 is not the year of idm....
