What's up with that? That piping is so impractical. Unless the contents are meant to travel longer distances (possibly to cool them down, or something), it's just counter-productive to transporting materials.

i am a chemical engineer and i have seen some crazy-ass piping at places like refineries. makes me shudder to think who designed the maze of piping. it is definitely not to cool them off though, they have specific heat exchangers for that.

as far as i can tell, there's no point to that. what probably happened is that some other pipes were there and some equipment got moved around so they took those pipes out creating unneeded zigs.

industrialists don't like spending money on unnecessary kinks guys. those are there for a purpose.
