i really liked it's all around you. should be up your alley if you like TNT. TNT is my favorite. of course you have millions now living which many would argue is their best. worth checking out as well. if you want something more electronicky then i'd go with standards. dont sleep on their first self-titled album eiather

but yeah check out it's all around you

looking forward to this, hoping the long break will result in something fresh.

Millions Now Living Will Never Die is the best place to start.

Yeah this one is still excellent. One of my first inspirations for making music. Didn't warp release this one?

awesome. hopefully they haven't succumbed to the trendy fashion these days of making stuff that sounds like animal collective - not that there's anything wrong with that, but i like my tortoise tortoise-y.

and hopefully they tour australia again, their sydney show in '04 (or was it '05? can't remember) was one of the best live shows i've ever seen! especially when they played ten day interval.

They haven't done a bad album, really looking forward to this. I think I'm one of the only people that prefers Its all around you over their other work. To me its a lot more simple than their other work and kind of more direct because of that

i like the composition and song flow a lot in 'its all around you' but the main reason it's not one of my favorites is because how it was engineered and mixed. it sounds like it was trying to be intentionally dirty but i just prefer the cleaner less distorted recordings on their earlier stuff.

Yay!

I have seen em in Chicago and like IARY a lot.

it's all around you is my second fav behind TNT. i think i'm rare in the fact that standards is probably my least fav even though there are quite a few songs on there that i love, i just think overall it's their least interesting work. but i dont really hear the "dirtiness" in theIAAY mix, it sounds perfect to me. i think they get better with every album as far as how their sound comes across on the recordings, which is why i dont listen as much to pre-TNT tortoise. i can't imagine crest sounding any other way when it kicks in after the lithium shifts... probably one of my favorite tortoise moments on any album (definitely my favorite tortoise live moment).

Definitely -- and I like the cheesy, m83-anticipating synth strings
