so, do christians look at this and think nothing of it?

I don't see how this is at all incompatible with my Christianity really. If anything it increases my awe for the creator.

I don't mean to offend you Iain, but your Christianity surprises me a little. I'm just curious to what extent you practice you're religion.

I guess I always thought your quotes from the Bible might be in jest.

If you would rather not discuss it you don't have to. It merely raised an eyebrow.

Why the fuck isn't VY Canis Majoris a black hole by now? There are much tinier stars, even ones that were once the size of our own star, that implode into themselves...

it's a main sequence star - at the wrong stage in its lifecycle for that

later in its lifecycle it will start to accumulate more heavy elements and that's the beginning of the end

there is a balance that comes from the stars own gravity pulling in and the pressure pushing out that is created inside the star due to nuclear fusion

I remember when I was in second or third grade and we all cut out circles from construction paper representing our favorite planets. Then we went outside and cut a huge circle that the entire class could fit in that represented the sun. Blew my little mind.

And it continues to do so. Even looking at a simple chart like this, it's hard to really comprehend the sheer size of a tooth pick compared to the largest known star.

Love it.

woah, the planets part was like ok whatever but then seeing the sun vs betelguese and betelguess vs those even bigger stars :omg:

so if you left earth but you were just moving at a walking speed, could you even get to jupiter before you died (of old age)?

haha edited to fix betelguese and i still can't remember how to spell it
