Austin Texas Mental Hospital, Pt. 2

I will say right now that this piece of music is quite possibly the aural representation of that that cannot be named, the absence of judgment. The aftermath of abandonment, a quick but everlasting sense of decay.

I think this is an abandoned mental hospital in Austin.

its exactly the music that propels me into "the thousand mile stare"

yesterday I rode my bike 4 miles up to the top of a dome in Fairbanks (I nearly passed out from exhaustion by the time I got to the top) and looked out over everything, miles and miles and miles

maybe my least favourite on that album, but that's only because it's in pretty esteemed company... i think i like part 3 the best - it feels like the calm comedown from that looooong middle part.

haven't listened to that album in ages actually. i was a bit scared of wearing their albums out after listening them to them all pretty much non-stop for all of 2006 and 2007 so i tried to leave them for a while. perfect walking music... i had a pretty transcendental walk up in the hills listening to avec laudenum, tired sounds and their refinement back to back once. having clouds break into a spectacular sunset pretty much exactly at the key change in requiem for dying mothers part 2... :shade:

nice man... nice...

yeah, weird, my least favorite thing on that album. i absolutely love broken harbors, though. about four and a half minutes into part two=beautiful. then at five and a half minutes where it pauses for about two seconds and starts to build until that big sort of deep flourish comes in. love that track.

nice. i'll have to check that out. i love stars of the lid but i don't like their most recent album at all. i'm afraid they got kind of formulaic for me...but when they're good they're amazing. artificial pine arch song is maybe my favorite piece of music. i can't think of another eighteen minute track that i can listen to on repeat...

Its funny, I somehow end up liking the long transitional bits in between their longer suites. I could listen to the second half of Atomium pt 2 on loop for ever...

I was hoping to go for a run tonight. I think I'll put this on my iPod.

you can run to this kind of music? not me. i need beats.

It helps me focus on my breathing and at some points forget that I'm running. It can be very transcendental.

I've only got Gravitational Pull vs. The Desire For An Aquatic Life, The Ballasted Orchestra and Carte-De-Visite but I'd like to find the rest after hearing what you guys had to say.

that's like the worst suite in SOTL history, lol ... but still pretty good

its funny, I tend to be ultimately attracted to their really drone pieces, complete unending cluster chords, Fucked Up (3:57 AM) is a good example of that

(Live) In Calgary, Alberta... 'nuff said

i was psyched to see them live on their last tour. it was great, but they moved a bit away from the live drones they used to do and really used the 3? piece string section they brought along. don't get me wrong, it was awesome but i would've loved to chomp down on some heavy drones.

man, i saw them live (in arlington, VA) and it was possibly the best show i've yet been to

well, lol! anyone who likes SOTL likes drone music, i would hope ... i guess austin mental hospital just didn't quite do it for me, in comparison to their other stuff, but it's still impressive
